Identify this snake?

I have found hens with wet necks i think they choke them out, i am not sure why because they cannot eat them

Don't think of any animal, not even your own chickens as a logical species. Animals do not employ logic. Instead they employ the fang, the talon, or the claw and hope that they have enough of either weapon to get the job done.

That is the very definition of an opportunistic feeder.

In other words, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained"

Cute lil thing!

I wish to remind you that looks can be deceiving. Back in the deep dark recesses of time the same reptile slithered under a different name. It was known as a chicken snake and your betters in the Politically Correct Industrial Complex decided to rename him rat snake for obvious reasons. I give chicken snakes the benefit of the doubt if I find one away from my scratch pens, fly pens, or my Blue Bird boxes etc. However I prosecute them mercilessly when I find one curled up in one of my Blue Bird boxes or in a hens' nest. You would be wise to do the same.

I understand that many people do not agree with me on reptile opinions. I love all snakes and think that they are adorable, as well as any other type of reptile. I have owned a few and I have a Frog right now. Many of these wonderful creatures are very misunderstood because of their looks, appetite for small, usually cute animals and also for the fact that some of them have venom. I think that every animal has a purpose (except maybe mosquitoes!) and that they should all be treated equally.

Rat snake, chicken snake, whatever. I have secure protection from predators and so should everyone else. It’s your responsibility to keep your hens and eggs safe. I wish to remind you that people eat chicken and eggs raised in much worse conditions. I would rather know that a possibility starving creature got a good healthy meal, than that thousands upon thousands of people eat the crap coming out of factory farms every day, supporting the death of millions of male chicks and cruel treatment of hens.

I’m sorry I got off topic, but that’s just my strange, weird, but honest and heartfelt opinion on the matter.

Have a nice evening.
