Identify this snake?

ohh, It looks so dangerous... don't you afraid?
No reason to be afraid of snakes! They won’t hurt you if you don’t hurt them.

Sorry these pictures are a few years old, but here’s me with some garter snakes, a rattle snake and a ball python:

They will kill chicks and attempt to eat them!

Humans kill thousands of unwanted male chicks at egg factories and just throw them away. The snakes need something to eat, and a baby chick is food. It’s sad if it’s your own baby chick, but at least it’s going to use.

I’m sorry, I just feel really strongly on this topic. I understand why you guys don’t like them, but I’d like to at least try to make you understand them better.

Black Rat Snake. Commonly found in North Fl/Georgia/Carolina's.
1000% harmless unless you are an insect/lizard/rodent.
Long before man kind started spraying toxic poison to kill pests, mother nature engineered this all natural pest control.
As far as it growing up to eat you eggs, it will smell mice rats or mice FIRST, follow the scent and find your eggs by accident.
but if anyone got bitten go to a hospital. .

Sorry.. but that is silly..

Soap and water is way less expensive.;)

In the S.E. USA, If you have rodents in the area, you have rat snakes everywhere. Harmless to humans, just scary if you haven't seen them up close.

I understand that many people do not agree with me on reptile opinions. I love all snakes and think that they are adorable, as well as any other type of reptile. I have owned a few and I have a Frog right now. Many of these wonderful creatures are very misunderstood because of their looks, appetite for small, usually cute animals and also for the fact that some of them have venom. I think that every animal has a purpose (except maybe mosquitoes!) and that they should all be treated equally.

Rat snake, chicken snake, whatever. I have secure protection from predators and so should everyone else. It’s your responsibility to keep your hens and eggs safe. I wish to remind you that people eat chicken and eggs raised in much worse conditions. I would rather know that a possibility starving creature got a good healthy meal, than that thousands upon thousands of people eat the crap coming out of factory farms every day, supporting the death of millions of male chicks and cruel treatment of hens.

I’m sorry I got off topic, but that’s just my strange, weird, but honest and heartfelt opinion on the matter.

Have a nice evening.
You have a right to your own personal opinion(s).
No need for apologies. I found nothing offensive in your contributions to the thread. Thank you for your honest and open minded input.
We all share one planet, and are all related in some way, shape or form.
Best regards..

Rats are what usually attract snakes to your coop. Control the rats/mice and you will probably not see any snakes. A clean coop and yard goes a long way also. Take away their hiding places and their main food source and they will move. Killing snakes indiscriminately is not wise. The fleas and disease brought to your property by those cute little rodents are more of a threat to you, your family and your flock than a non- aggressive non-poisonous snake.:old
