If a person cannot spell, would you still sell birds to them??

I usually regret responding to these type of kneejerk posts but since you all asked, I said "may consider", also would depend on the persons abilities on a case by case review. If they are alone they would be unable to hear or see any health issues that may appear or worse rely on someone that could care less or not want to be bothered or any other factors limited by sight or sound. Kind of off topic.

Maybe this person is just as the OP thinks and is a moron not capable of tying his own shoes and does not have a clue to what is involved in raising chickens and has been told by his parents his whole life that he is a genius and everything in the world is fair and good and he only needs to believe in himself and he will excel in life and that effort to obtain life skills is no more important that the effort to spell something correctly so people will not think he is an idiot when possibly he is not. Judge yourself lest ye be judged.

I'd like to know how that would make sense, too.

Judgemental. Ignorant. Discrimination.

Sorry but these are the words that came to mind when reading the OP. I am normally a very good speller. I watch punctuation and grammar. I mess up at times, of course. Who doesn't? This guy could be 10 times smarter than any of us on here but the OP wouldn't know that because she's too busy picking apart his spelling ability. I find that very rude and condescending.

P.S. Webster's dictionary does NOT recognize the slang term, "kinda." There's your daily dose of DUH from me to you!

When selling birds I try and set my goal price and also as low as I would be willing to go. I made the mistake of going to a swap with wonderful ducklings. I let the mamas hatch WAY too many and thus I had 40 (yes you saw that right) to bring. I wanted 10 each, they were 10 or so weeks old and to be honest this was way cheap as well. I ended up offering the lot for $50 and got talked down to $40. I was looking at winter and feeding all these ducks or doing the deed myself as I did not want to haul water to them all winter and feed that many. I took the money and chose to be happy with that particular situation. And I learned my lesson.

Don't hatch what you won't want! Don't give away your extras. Stick to your guns about your low price. For me I will eat what I don't sell, I don't want to give someone else a free meal when I have fed these birds correctly and my family could use the food. I also worked my butt off for these birds, my sweat and tears and attatchment are there.

CL is great at advertising but you will get people with a sob story. If he doesn't have the $ you move on. (notice I am not touching the text speak... he very well could have been on his phone as I get e-mail on mine and sometimes send something on it.) I have decided I value my birds too much to give them away. I have however taken someone else's birds because they needed a home but if I see an ad for a $20 rooster I move on as that is too much for me to spend unless he is really spectaular for my breeding program.

I would think a few errors here in there does not matter to the OP.

It's more like: i was wundering if u would sell the bird 4 $10

No. I'm sorry. It would put me off. I want to read proper English, not shorthand mumbo jumbo

That's how I took it when I read the OP.

Have read everyone's comments, and 90% of you are not getting the picture here. Yes the spelling was part of her concern. BUT her major concern was...HE HAD NO MONEY TO PAY FOR THE BIRD, SO HOW WAS HE GOING TO FEED IT. He said he wanted to give it to his brother as a gift, what is the brother going to do with a 1 lb bird, does he even want a bird????? DO NOT MEET HIM ANYWHERE ALONE! If he wants to meet, take your Father with you!

If any of you took the time & effort to raised a hen or roo to adulthood, then put it up on CL for $$, and someone contacted you & said,"I am short on cash, but want the bird, can I have it for free?" Would You Just Give It To Them??? I Think Not!

Remember the OP is a kid (teenager), you are dealing with a young persons thoughts & emotions here, not an adult. She came here to ask for advice, not to be picked on because of her concerns of the person who answered her CL ad.

Give her a break and offer her some parental input.

TANI I do know the Animal Shelters here take farm animals, if you can not find a home that you feel comfortable selling your roo to, contact your local shelter & see what their policies are.

Good Luck, I hope you find him a safe & loving home.

I wouldn't back down on the price either. If he can't afford it, then don't ask for it.
But she is judging his abilities by the way he spells and that's ridiculously offensive.
I can't for the life of me spell vacuum (vaccum?) right but I still know how to use one. He can't spell them but I bet he knows the difference between one bird (it) and multiple birds (them). Never judge a book by it's title.
