If I *hypothetically* wanted to get some coloured egg layers which ones should I get?

What breed?

(Sorry if something similar has been mentioned already)

A friend/co-worker got 3 straight run banty EEs - I think they were called Sage Eggers? If I recall they were from Meyer and late 2020. Turned out 1 hen and 2 boys. She is about ready to cull both roos as they do skulk around and make attempts to jump you when your back is turned. I can vouch for that! As far as I’ve heard they treat the girls okay.

As far as colors, good ‘ole standard EE girls seem fine; I have a few and they are friendly. Some are dominant and some aren’t. I think I recall reading that many standard EE boys can often be a handful.

EDIT: most commercial hatcheries have the “regular brown/red” laced Barnevelder. Any egg I’ve seen has been tan. I too want one of the Silver double laced Barnevelder, but to get them I’ll have to go to a specialty or individual Hatcher/egg seller. The SDLBs DO come in banty size!! I was sent one when I asked for standards (the egg was tan) and got a pullet, just like I wanted, but in miniature! I had to give her over to the above mentioned friend, as she wasn’t doing well enough with my standards.

Thanks. I won't be getting any roos, otherwise I'd just hatch them myself!

So hosting the natural egg contest has made me want to get some coloured egg layers. I might or I might not. Once I rehome my last 2 roos I'll have space to get up to 3 more chickens (I'll probably only get 2 though). If I did get some I'm not sure what I would get that lays eggs other than white/beige.

Must:
  • Be a small breed (I have bantams)
  • Non-aggressive (My chickens are pets)
  • Be easy to find
  • Lay any egg colour except for white/beige
I'll add options onto the poll
I vote Easter Eggers I have three full grown ones they are so sweet they lay blue and green eggs . I have bantams and silkies and they get along very well .My girls are very loving . I have two new 4 week old Americanas that's how much I love the colored eggs .

Easter Eggers and Welsummers! We have for EEs who are the sweetest of the flock. They are fun b/c you get rainbow eggs and rainbow chickens since most EEs are unique coloring. For the eggs, we are getting a blue with white speckled bloom and three sightly different shades of blue-green. Not the same color as or Olive Egger who is more of an olive green. I don't have Welsummers yet but I'm getting some this summer for the speckled eggs to complement the egg basket.

Picture without a filter in the kitchen light, they are bluer in natural light.
