If I want colorful eggs....

How many EEs do you have now? Maybe you'll get a variety of colors. My granddaughter's favorites are the pale pink eggs.
We only have her. I would love to get more though! Maybe I can talk my mom into getting more :D

Although our young, growing rooster Jack (He's a barred rock) has been pretty mean to her

He tried to mount her and he pulled a big clump of feathers off her neck.

You need more hens if you are going to keep a rooster, otherwise he will keep them roughed up (maybe even seriously injure one of them). You don't need any roosters unless you want fertilized eggs for raising more chickens. Hens will actually lay just as well or better without roosters, but if you decide to keep a rooster, the general rule of thumb for the health of the hens is 1 rooster for every 10 hens. I currently have 25 hens. I get loads of eggs, and no roosters fighting, trying to spur people, crowing in the middle of the night, or roughing up the girls.)
