if it's not mareks, what's the deal?

It is good that she is still eating and alert. They go down hill rapidly once they lose interest in food. I've had a couple with Marek's that survived several months with paralysis. One that couldn't walk for about 2 months, did eventually make a significant but not total recovery and although still lame, was able to walk with a limp and fly and resumed free ranging with the flock. Sadly the other got what I believe to be an e coli infection (Marek's makes them prone to secondary infections of that nature) and she had to be euthanized. Good supportive care, good nutrition, sunshine and grass and the company of other chickens (that have already been exposed to the virus) are what I have found help. I don't give up on them as long as they are bright eyes and eating.
Good luck with her.

we want to put her out wit the rest, but they're free ranging over 1/2 acre now so she'd be left to her own devices with a cat and a pig who's soul goal in life is to eat all of the chickens food. She wouldn't last too long.

her leg is totally splayed out front and foot curled all up.

so i had to cull "patient zero" past weekend. She basically deteriorated over a course of 3 days where she could not even keep her wings closed. both legged splayed forward and twitching, too.

sad and unfortunate.

i truly hope this is the last. the rest of the flock are growing and doing fine.

Sorry to read she deteriorated to the point that euthanasia was necessary but the right decision to make. Did you consider sending her off for a necropsy or doing one yourself to try to ID the cause. I'm pretty sure it is Marek's but useful to have confirmation.
