Just wondering who out there in Quailville is working on breeding a line of big fat Coturnix! If you are give us a shout-out! I'd love to learn more about the genetics, Darkfur was ever so kind on giving me her write up on colors and genes. The genetics to me are fascinating and i love to play mad scientist, so let's hear what you are doing!

I'm figuring they were. I am just wondering who is trying for that 14-16 oz coturnix. Any type or color. Who is playing mad scientist out there? Cause I don't wanna be the only one. I am starting with good stock, I have some jumbos from JJ, some white a&m from Mamawolf, and ordered more jumbo from uglyduck, and I am going to order more from JJ. none of mine are adults yet. Heck the a&ms are hatching right now, lol. I will be saving the biggest, most virile birds for breeding my own line.

That might take a while, but I would bet that you will enjoy some success. Sounds like a good plan. Hope it works well. Maybe you can get them up to Butler size.

I'd like to start breeding for big birds also.
Can you forward sources of decent stock (eggs) to begin with?

Who is JJ and other people you mentioned?

Yes as well as brown xld-1, texas a&m's and nearly every jumbo strain. As well is true of bob whites--- Northern jumbos, Wisconsin jumbos, Butler giants, Georgia giants, and of course our very own wild's of pa's Slate belt Monsters---- Its called selective breeding, or mad scientist disease--- LOL ---

I just started, so I don't have much to add, but if anybody has some eggs from exceptionally large individuals (coturnix) I would be happy to purchase some. It's going to take me much longer than others to get a good program going because my incubator's capacity is only 7 and I have limited space for keeping quail.
