If you care to hear the rants/troubles of a young adult.

But... What would I do with my chickens? My dog? I have good friends out here... It sounds great except for the fact of it being so far away.

Maybe you could advertise for just such a position near where you live?

I saw an ad here locally just the other day for someone to take care of and feed horses...it came with a house and utilities! Can't beat that!

They are farms I think dogs are usually OK chickens you may have to do some negotiating. It really depends on the farm. The folks that own these big farms are understanding. I don't know how many birds you have but I would not bring a dozen chickens with you.

I will say to research any farm you decide to apply at and get a feel for the ones that offer the most for you. My wife worked with the breeding manager and attended shows and such and for the time and her age she loved it. You need a heart for animals though I must say. From what I have read of your posts you seem honest, likable and you are the kind of person that someone would have no qualms hiring, presentable if you will.

That's exactly how many I have!

I have never worked with horses, and my cattle experience is limited to a single cow. I probably could look around here -- this is farm country. There might be a couple places looking for an extra hand. Thanks for the idea.

some places you don't have to have a lot of experience with horses, experience with manure will do...

I lived on a breeding ranch for a year when I was 18, it was hard work, physical, but honest, I learned a lot and I got in really fit shape. chickens might not be an issue, not if you're the right person for the job.

My daughter did that at around 28. Not a great idea. Oh yeah the money is good but women get treated like they're.. um... well not very good in that business. But it did make her go back to college and now she's a successful electrical engineer with her own department in a major company.
