If you could live in any State in the U.S. where would you live?

Try Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia or southern Colorado. Northern CA might also fit your bill

Like I said ... too long for me. DH forgot to tell me about the long winters here when he proposed to me. I had lived all my life in Georgia, talk about a climate change

I already live in the Northwest, and. . . Don't want to live here as a dream place. WAY too little sun, WAY too much rain, and it is SO far away from civilization. I'm talking 4 hours to buy a chicken, 1.5 hours to see any chain fastfood, and 5 hours for a chain restaurant or mall. I feel lonely here.

If there was more sun it would be a beautiful place though!!

Otherwise, my dream state is either northern California or Utah; my home state.

I live in N. Ca. By this, I mean truly NORTH, 80 mi. frim the Or. border. The only reason I'd leave would be if this place started to look like anywhere south of Santa Rosa, no - Ukiah. Wayyyy too many people driving like their tails are on fire, not to mention the habit of building houses so close you can see your neighbors in their own house if you happen to have your curtains open. I lived in Sacramento for 1 1/2 yrs in 1988-89. Since then, that place has been absolutely consumed in housing developements - Ag land has practically disappeared.
If Humboldt changed, I'd want to move to, possibly, Missoula, Montana. Or Hawaii (Big Island) - I've been there twice and it is soooo beautiful. Except that thing about the volcano...

Don't know why everyone is down on living in civilization. One of the reasons I like CA is the people. I would go nuts if I lived in an isolated area like the Rocky Mountain or prairie states. To me, the ideal would be to buy a vacant lot in a city and move an old house on it. Or better yet, move into an old house within an established neighborhood with an extra large yard. Just an acre or two for chickens, a big veggie garden and some fruit trees. This way I can have the best of both worlds. A little bit of land for sustainability and everything close enough that I can ride my bike or walk to it. Ahh!! My own urban homestead.

When I used to show A-circuit horse shows in high school, we would go down to Kentucky for March shows (MI shows don't start until May) and we would be very excited, "Wow! There's flowers and leaves! Winter must be over here!

Just for the sheer sake of randomness, you might like to know that the "state" of West Virginia does not legally exist. It was created after Virginia seceded, but without the consent of the Virginia legislature, making it unconstitutional. Just thought that random bit of little-known information might make some of y'all laugh.
