If you could raise one breed exclusively, what would it be?

if i could only choose one it would be copper black marans they r my fav choc eggers for several reasons. i lost mine to preditors and such i miss them wish they were still here. second to that would be my welsumers they lay medium speckled to dark eggs depending on the time of year. both lay the beautifulest eggs i have ever seen.

if for personality and fun and rare tolbunt, choc or kaki polish.

for good moms, real fluffy bums and sweethearts it would be hands down silkies and showgirls, lol that's what more than 3/4 of my flock r now.

i've raised at one point or another most of the breeds listed above all have been great in their own ways. one i've been wanting to get eggs for a long time for has been the Blue Laced Red Wyandottes i have to agree they r very gorgous birds.

someday i'll have some of them too!!

Speckled Sussex. I love my two(a roo and pullet). My roo likes to sit on my shoulder and nuzzle in my hair. My pullet is quite calm and a joy to hold. I adore their beautiful color and markings. I plan on breeding my pair throughout the year, and hatching the eggs. Roosters for processing and pullets for egg laying. It is nice to have a winter hardy dual purpose breed around that is also lovely to look at out in the yard.

I also really adore my Buff Orpingtons. There is something about their round fluffy shape that really fits into the farm atmosphere we have going here. If I had a roo I would breed and raise those as well. But right now, I have only pullets. So I am going to stick to the sussex for the time being.

I too have one of many breeds...EE, Cochin (7 colors), RIR, SS, Light Brahma, Amberlink, Gold Penciled Hamburg, Silkie, BO, Wheaten Ameraucana, WC Black Polish, Buff Laced Polish, RSL, BR, Aus/Silver Spangled Hamburg mix, Japanese, Silver Sebright, Salmon Faverolle, Welsummer, Australorp, OEGB & d'Uccles.

The Standard Cochins are definitely my favorites. But they don't sell as easy as great layers or blue egg layers.

I also wanted a breeding flock that I could sell eggs and chicks from, so I got a trio of Blue Ameraucanas from another BYC'er and hatched out about 30 B/B/S babies. I also sold some of their eggs and chicks, then I sold the trio to a friend and am hoping to grow out most of the chicks I have and choose a Splash roo and 3 Splash, 2 Blue and 2 Black pullets for my new flock. So hopefully if all goes well I will be able to sell eggs and chicks from them next Spring.

Irish Wolfhounds! But seriously- I'd love to have Cochins & Orps in every color. Well- I'm getting there one color( or 3:BBS) at a time. Still waiting for someone to show me a MF standard cochin. So- to calm my craving for the MF- I picked up some Speckled Sussex from a member. All 3 of these breeds have great temperments too.
