we are in the process of designing one,as what we have at present is just barely adequate.After seeing all these wonderful examples I think we may have to go back to the drawing board.Wow chicken peeps are fabulously creative and very talented!

i built my coop over mother's day weekend 2009. my DH built the run to match.
yes, those are two human children helping rake the sand in the run!

we added the solar lanterns over the summer, which really adds to the japanese feel to the design.

when all the after xmas sales start, i may add more lights!

These coops are fantastic! Can't wait for Spring to do some decorating on my own!

KnockKneed Hen - we used to raise/show St Bernards years ago (and I applaud your rescue efforts!) and have "moved on" to chickens, and also live in a "wind tunnel" where everything that isn't tied down and I mean real good blows away (like last night for example). If my chickens had been outside, even the ones that can't fly..would have!

Here are some pictures of our coop. It is designed after our house, which is a saltbox. My husband built it mostly out of recycled materials, except the run, which was the most expensive part of the coop (hardware cloth).

Here's my little coop

This is a picture of my newly built coop. I have a tiny backyard in the middle of the suburbs so my coop could only be 4x4. It still feels giant back there. My neighbor built it out of free wood we got off craigslist. The panels are old fence planks. There is a layer of insulation between the panels and the plywood in the inside to help stabilize the temperatures. There will be a cupola with a weathervane when that gets finished since we have to worry about heat more than cold here in Oklahoma.

The letters are old vintage marquis letters that I had to search etsy for. The run door and nesting box door are bolted with locks because we have raccoon raids here. The whole structure is built over a cement pad and bolted down to keep the foxes from digging under. The clean out doors have a wooden post across and all vents have hardware cloth covering them.
This is when it was first completed last month.

And now during Christmas time.

And here is a picture of my young blue laced red wyandotte pullet (8 weeks), Emma.

I love it and so do my chickens. More importantly, I love having my chickens!
