if you have not tried french pressed coffee

I haven't broken one yet, but I know what you mean. That is a definite plus to this one.

If you pour immediately after the 4 minute steep, it wouldn't have to be. But they do make stainless steel thermal presses also. Starbucks sells a nice one.

Many people make a really strong batch and then have hot water boiling in the kettle. They then can make their "Americano" coffee as strong or weak as they like.

Has anybody else roasted their own? I buy fairly traded organic green coffee from Seven Bridges online
and then roast my own. Very easy and tastes great!

Oh man, I just received a French press for my birthday a few days ago, and I LOVE it! I'm not a coffee snob at all - I can't taste the difference between fresh ground/weeks old, Starbucks/gas station, expensive/cheap, flavored/unflavored, etc. But the difference between the French press and regular old coffee maker is huge.

The only drawbacks I've found are that it's a little more labor-intensive (you can't set it up the night before and then just flip a switch in the morning) and it seems to use a lot more grounds to make the same strength of coffee. It might become a weekends-only thing once I start working.
