This is a question for everybody who keeps 'unusual' chickens-- how did you get into it? By "unusual" I mean any bird that is far from the typical, farm-yard, dual-purpose chicken: silkies, Polish, naked-necks, frizzles... anything that makes visitors say, "that's a CHICKEN?" I have always prefered the basic chicken: RIRs, Orpingtons, Marans. But I hatched out two "surprise" white eggs as part of a trade with a local farmer, and they turned out to be Buff-laced Polish! They look so funny mixed with my flock of more typical-looking birds. I really can't figure out what that big poofy headdress is for... So what's your reason for liking the odd bird?
