Well everybody does have the right to bear arms. I know most people use them responsibly, but there are those that don't. Hence you have the kids that shoot each other with Dad's gun that was left in the nightstand with a full clip, because what good is a gun if it's locked in a safe. You have the guys that get drunk and go do some target practice in an unsafe area. Of course most of the guns used by criminals were taken from homes or cars of honest citizens that had the guns for protection. They can run a background check to try to be sure you're not a criminal or a looney, but they can't run a check on how stupid you might be. Therein lies the problem.

Silkie is right. You should have to go through mandatory safety training. A lot of people are too stupid to think of common sense things like gun storage. Obviously some people don't have respect for what a gun can do, like where does that bullet go when it doesn't hit what you were aiming at. Or what's behind the target. Then after some training even if they're drunk something might kick in and say leave the gun in the safe.

all I can say is wow! maybe the cops will pay more attention when he finally kills someone. And it will probably be a child or something horrible like that. I would put in a complaint if I could it sounds like the cops DID NOT do their job, I would think him being drunk would be MORE reason to take him in not less.

No one should have any guns because the criminal element may steal them from us? You could be right! If one is so ignorant that one buys a gun for protection and then cannot protect one's guns, I would say that this person doesn't deserve to have any.
