If you use shavings and have a poultry fount, how high is it?

I let water hang from the ceiling... BUT I noticed they were bumping it and spilling it every now and then.... so I now hang it but also set it on a block. It cant swing and they can't knock it off into the floor.

MIKE, I think you've got a good solution.

I've only had my birds for a day, and already I see that having the water hanging alone isn't going to work. They are flying off the roost and bumping the waterer spilling all over the shavings. I think I'll keep the chain almost tight to keep the waterer from falling but have it elevated on a block to help keep it clean. I'm also going to move the hangers closer to the walls now that I know where their flight paths are.

Off topic, but I love your signature, PapaKeith

On topic, I can't get my waterer high enough. I even tried creating a 'platform' that they had to jump on to drink, but I'd still get shavings and poo to boot.

I would suggest that you one of the cheap square paving blocks. I'm not sure that's what they are called but it may cost 5 bucks or something at lowes for about 18" square concrete block about 2" thick. If you place that under your waters it may hold back some of the sawdust. and keep them from scatching close to the waterer.

The height of an old plastic milk crate. Just turned it upside down and Voila! Instant stand for the waterer at just the right height.
