If your chickens could speak, what would they have said to you today?

"Quit obsessing over checking those empty nesting boxes and bring us our scratch....now....and a few fresh strawberries would be nice too....if you ever want to see eggs from us!"

When checking my broody for chicks...

"If you put your hand under there ONE MORE time, you're pulling back a stub."

Then later when she took her hatched chick off the nest

"Your so obsessed with those eggs, YOU finish them out."

I don't think I am allowed to repeat what speckles is saying to me. She is one ticked off stroppy girl saying fa-fa-fa-fa...... (you fill in the rest)

Her beak is rather out of join with the 2 new additions and no amount of fresh strawberry bribery is gonna cut it.

Its raining big time here and I am sure my girls were asking to go outside. But I had one BR who is just starting to lay and she was like "Touch me again and I will peck even harder" Yes, she pecked me. Then tonight they were like where is our sunflowers.

We're having our house painted this week so today began with my spending some early coffee time with the head painter. Also this morning I had to go to the doctor. Then we had lunch at the hospital. Then I went home. THEN about 2:30 P.M. I went to check on a broody hen and discovered that I had not let the chickens out of the run at 9 A.M. like I've ALWAY done before.
I cannot repeat on this forum what the chickens said to me and the names they called me, but rest assured it wasn't pretty.

My girls have discovered the dirt under the picnic table in the back yard. So today when I let them out of the coop area, they all meandered on over, and had a great dirt bath...dirt under the table..I could almost hear them saying, ahh, thanks, this is great!

Yesterday, I picked a zucchini that had gotten way too large on the vine & put it in the fridge. This afternoon during the hottest part of the day, I chopped that zucchini in half and went outside with it and sat down on our 'treat seat'. All the girls were taking turns getting bites and actually being almost polite about it. Vern, my big, overly dignified and oh so polite roo, who NEVER eats while I'm watching, came over to see what the girls were getting. Then he shoved his way to the front of the line, right up between my knees, grabbed one piece of zucchini in his beak and started yanking. He even braced his wings against my knees trying to get that whole piece of zucchini! I held on, and I know those sounds coming out of him meant "Let go of the &^%$&* zucchini!!!"

Since it hit a record high of 108 here today, my birds would have said, "Hey thanks for turning the AC on in the coop!"

I'm thinking we'll all have to dress in swimsuits for Halloween!

When I work on their coop, I drop every screw or nail at least 3 times. About half way through the project and the air is blue.

I think they were saying "kill that fox so you don't have to stare at us when we are free ranging. We hate that"
