If your chickens could speak, what would they have said to you today?

A week ago, I held out my hands full of puffed brown rice cereal. They LOOKED at them and then looked up at me. I could hear it, I swear: "What is THIS stuff? We've never seen that before! Where's our dry oatmeal? Or the BOSS? Or that yummy shredded cheese? What is THIS crap??"

Even scattered on the ground they merely scratched at it and then walked away in little feathery huffs.

Yesterday, I tossed some puffed brown rice cereal in the goldfish pond for the big honkin' goldfish, who appreciate organic cereals.

Three hens jumped to the retaining wall and PICKED FLOATING cereal off the surface. So I tossed some more cereal on the ground and it was Grand Central Station with all trains coming in to the depot at once.

"Om num num! We love this stuff! Ooooh! Puffed brown rice cereal, greatest thing EVER!"

Late Lucy (she is always the last to lay her egg) greeted me at the door and must have smelled the rasins - I think she said "She has rasins today!" because within a few seconds I was surrounded by my rasin-lovin' girls...

I think my gals would have told me today that they were slacking off on there laying duties- only 3 eggs today from 9 hens. It's OK though the last 2 days they gave me 7 & 6 respectfully.

Thanks for the cracked corn and feed, but what we REALLY wanted was yogurt.....and grapes.....and apples.....and watermelon....

When I could FINALLY let them out at 5:30 all I could hear were

"THANK GOD! Get us outta this joint! Also, fill up the water, man!"

And then later the shyest of the bunch came over to me and got into the "sex crouch" for me to pick her up. She was clearly uncomfortable while I was holding her.

"ICANTDOTHISICANTDOTHISICANTDOTHIS!!! PUTMEDOWNPUTMEDOWNPUTMEDOWNPUTMEDOWN!!"

Thanks momma for the bread... the corn..... the oyster shell..... the really cool digs...... the window...... the shady overhang...... the dog OUTSIDE the fence!

"What the heck are these chirping things under me? What am I supposed to do with these? I was sitting on eggs for the longest time, and now I have these things all over the place. Do they ever shut up?"
