Illegal Chickens??

can you really be imprisoned for chickens? We are in the county ...the city you can have 6 on 1/2 and less...so no issues for me? but wow! Some of the posts!!!

I can't believe all the people on this forum who are opposed to stretching beyond the word of the law. The original post was about a town that allowed chickens (i.e., already a chicken-friendly town) but that had lot-size requirements. I say go ahead and get chickens and then lobby to have the law changed. Just because a law is being broken doesn't mean that anything immoral is going on. The chicken ordinance was passed here in Providence largely through the work of dedicated individuals who had been keeping chickens here illegally for years. The city council knew this but still passed the ordinance allowing chickens to be legalized. What's right is right. And it is not alright to ban the keeping of chickens in one's backyard in a responsible manner. Thankfully, the trend is that cities and towns are now starting to recognize this and are repealing antiquated and prejudicial laws that have been stagnating on their books for years.

Teaching recpect for authority and danger is good, but to teach that authority should be feared and never challenged is not (IMHO) otherwise we all end up as a bunch of meat birds plugged in to TVs and stuffed with KFC and pocket pizzas.

Authority is not always right, just and free from corruption. If no one ever challenges authority it just line breeds onto it's self and the bad traits get passed along.

Thank goodness I moved away from my "democratic" western homeland to a country where it's all about "live and let live".

Tolerance, tolerance, tolerance people. If you ask me, I would simply say that if you want to keep chickens, then go ahead and keep them. All this nonsense about level playing fields - since when has life been a level playing field in the first place? Perhaps I hate dogs (I don't), and yet neighbors can keep dogs while I can't keep chickens. Perhaps I'm opposed to birds being caged. Now, in order for us to enjoy a level playing field, all types of animals should be forbidden, rather than only chickens.

Anyway, since I moved here to Thailand, I no longer need to worry about such things. In fact, I could live in the heart of a major city, and I could keep a pig if I wanted to

Does this cause ill feeling over here? Most certainly not. I keep chickens, and I live within the city limits, but hell would freeze over before any Thai person even considered complaining. I guess I need to count my blessings
