We're in a western Chicago suburb with several loving neighbors. The neighbors actually donated supplies, helped build the coop, & routinely give us kitchen scraps for the chickens. Because our neighbors have been so great, I really don't want to push the noise ordinance. With the windows shut, no one next door or even inside our house can hear him. I know all the neighbors within earshot don't mind hearing Brownie when they're outside (a few actually said they enjoy his crow), but I can't help it if a dog walker hears him & complains. Not many dog walkers or joggers with this winter's weather, though.
The worst part about his crow is that once he starts, he can go on for 5-15min straight. It starts when he sees or hears us & just continues. Seeing or hearing his owners seems to be his sunrise trigger.(Nothing to do with the actual sun) Picking him up does not really stop the crowing. There's no way to stop him other than distract with treats. (Boy do I try to avoid that! I certainly don't want to reward him for crowing or give any type of association between crowing & food.) If you have any ideas, let me know. I'm guessing by your 1am wake up calls, that your roo won't stop either. Do you know if the crowing gets more frequent or less frequent as they age? (age 8mo now)
