Illinois traders!!!!

The things we'll do to get our chooks! How do hatchlings travel? Heat packs? It would be about a 3 1/2 hour drive for us.
My test hatch is due March 18th. Tonight DD will candle them to check the progress. I'll be selling whatever hatches & offering them here 1st. Older chicks should be fine at room temp for the drive.

Because we have 2 incubators, my daughter's 4H project will start as soon as we have a good broody. It's possible that we'll have DD's hatch results also available. Her project will compare broody vs incubator, so I just keep collecting eggs so we're ready to go as soon as a volunteer comes along. The younger chicks may require a heat source for the journey.

Ill keep in touch as travel dates get closer!! I lost two girls this week to a predator. Fixed the hole in the barn (which was so small!) and hoping the girls settle down to laying and being more comfortable. First time this has happened! I guess I was lucky before. Rip Dot and John Deere Rockafeather. Both my daughter's younger girls...

There is a gentleman who raises Auburn Javas just outside of Springfield- Lyle Behl. I'm not sure if he is on this forum, but you may be able to Google him and find his info. If he's collecting eggs, I'm sure he will sell you some. Nice heritage breed!
