Illinois...

It was broadband dsl, over the phone
Yeah the satellite is expensive and people I know that have it say it unreliable... they want to get rid of it
Many cell companies have wifi devices and can turn your phone (some phones) into wifi hotspots. Not near the service of comcast but if u dont need much it doesn't matter. If u can just add a wifi device to your wireless might only be $40ish a month.

Maybe change the wood chips to newspaper as they wean. Then when somewhat larger, they will learn that wood chips are not food.
It could be the issues are from eating wood. :idunno Not a digestible product.
Darwin is doing much better. All alone in it's own box with no bedding. Crop is about half size. It has egg yolk, vitamin water, and a little feed with no bedding to eat.

Haven't been posting in quite awhile. Have been very, very busy! With new chickens to keep an eye out for, and more broody hens that I can shake a stick at, kids and work, I'm burning the candle at both ends.

My spitzie "mama" hatched 5 babies. The lavender in the next rubbermaid over got mama's 6th egg, an EE/spitz mix and it hatched today. I have two more broody spitz in the coop, so I bought another set of brackets and installed a box up so I could move mama and her babies outside. Not 10 minutes after getting out there, mama goes and attacks the broodies up in their boxes. The older one that is the same age as mama, came back and stood her ground, but poor Spitzer, just couldn't get back to her box. Mama wouldn't let her. I tried to help, but it wasn't happening. So, Spitzer is now in the garage. I was going to move the lavender in the next day or two and finally not have any broodies in my garage! Oh well.....couple of days down, 15-20 to go.....

Fertility issues are still abounding here. 9 orp eggs were set and I pulled all 9 orps eggs out today. I set 10 serama eggs. 4 started developing and now only 2 still are. I left 1 of them just in case, but I think it's gone. I set 7 more. I brought Taji in and gave him a good butt trimming and wash. Hopefully it will help. My lavender roo is just horrible at mating. I just stand there watching him try over and over while he keeps slipping off and then just standing there on top of the poor hen wondering "what ARE you doing boy?" I've seen bad roosters, but he takes the cake! I guess I'll give it a week and then set some more orp eggs to see if the butt trim helped.

T-Mobile Used to have a separate device that was $10 a month. Now it's $50. I can tether my phone with a UBS for free, but that makes the phone runs hot
They do have WiFi available for$15 a month. I would like something besides the phone in case the phone died.

My expensive dark Cornish has the same problem.

@BReeder!
Here are my 1st 3 quail of the year. Let me know if you agree on genders.

Male

I tried putting them in with the older ones.... but the male got too excited. No one knew how to react. These 3 littles were terrified and stood still in shock. The older females ran around in circles and then hid away in the nest box..... only to come out a few seconds later, see the intruders, and run circles all over again. The old male put his head down and tried to court them.... then he tried to mate the poor confused newbies.

I put the littles into their own cage for the night. We'll try introductions another time.

Gender guesses??? Comb & feather growth say female. Red wattles scream male.

Cookie stands tall to prove she's still the enforcer.

.... and after posing so big & strong, he walked away with a feather dragging behind him. Looked silly like someone coming out of the bathroom with a trail of TP stuck to a shoe. :lau

Some updated pics of little lonely only.
(Since Darling went broody and is adopting the incubator chicks, I slipped one more under her.) The serama's crying out for her quail siblings, but I feel it's time for her to bond with some chickens.
