Illinois...

Sad news. Two dead turkey poults. I think the pecking got too intense. They seemed fine and all stuck together. Something happened between the evening and morning though.
So sad. Were they males or females? My turkeys are usually the culprits who do the pecking. They're curious and not very bright..... which can be a bad combo. How many turkeys do you have left?

But I haven't had any hawk attacks since the turkeys
Coons is another thing
I've had hawk attacks..... but no losses of adult birds. It could be from the turkeys.

I did have a couple mysterious baby chick disappearances. It's possible the turkeys were somehow involved. That's why the current chicks & mama are in the garage at the moment. Once the chicks have some feathers, the turkeys may see them as chickens. Like I said, the turkeys are curious..... but not intelligent.

Except for lonely only....she falls under the ugly chickens.....
There are times she just looks so pathetic that it's cute.

Speaking on Lonely, she's become quite friendly. I stopped putting that pullet group in the tractor. Rather than go outside and explore the yard, they prefer to stay inside the safety of their 3'x2' pen inside the coop/run. That is until an adult goes in to steal some chick feed. The other day when this happened, Lonely came running up to me at top speed and jumped into my arms. Those stubby little legs can move! Then when I put her back down, she cried to be picked up.

Lost my first chicken to a hawk.
Broody daughter of dinner's. Her chicks had been jumping through the e net and running around the old horse pasture. I hadn't seen her out before, but I found her 20ft outside the fence. Judging by the feathers and blood It looks like she was caught up against the fence and moved.
I heard the turkeys and then her broody sister give alarm. I went to look and a red tail flew up.... 4 Stupid Roosters and nothing from them.
She was about 200ft from the rest of the flocks. Down a brush covered hill, in a mowed area.
I guess she got out to be with her chicks...chicks are with the sister
