A couple years ago I figured out I was $100 a month in the red.
But I figure it's entertainment and exercise that I didn't figure In

Mine have to walk through snow. They roost in a separate area and walk through a little snow to get to a covered part of the run. They dont like it though lol.
I didn't intend this setup but it will definitely be my plan forever. They roost in a place separate from where they lay. The roost is open floor so easy for deep litter method and I get very little "debris" on eggs. Also rarely have to clean the coop they lay in because they only go in to drop eggs.

So what was your funniest or best chicken story of 2019?

Right now I'd say mine was watching my chicken squat n drop. I always had a hen that would leave eggs anywhere in the run. One day I saw her running in the yard, fall down like she broke a leg, pop right up within a second, and continue running as if nothing happened having left an egg where she fell.

We have similar data in a table. Not added up, but each day I mark which hen laid an egg. I can go back to 2013.

Our Tillie had a streak of 370 days in a row without missing a single day! Because of that, we got Millie - another Leghorn. Right now, they're the only ones laying.

Both hens are 'quirky' but friendly in their own way.

OMG 370 days is amazing!! Galadriel is usually good for 6-7 a week but she was only at 22 eggs for December. Slacker. LOL!! Quirky is definitely a good way to describe her. She's a lot like me, wants things done her way and isn't afraid to get up in everyone else's business and tell them so. But she's also the first one who boots the babies out of the coop so they will eat and drink and she flies up on my lap so I get the treats faster. She keeps everyone in line. LOL!

Yeah, I just pretend those are sunk costs and try to not think about it.

We don't even get enough eggs for me not to have to still buy them. Once all 12 are laying, we'll be close but still not full up. This is why I need to move somewhere without restrictions. And then I can get goats and a cow too.

I want goats and highlander cattle. I too need to move if that's ever going to happen. As for chicken restrictions... well I've broken the limits already and added some ducks, turkey and quail (no turkey or quail at the moment though). My neighbors are all laid back and don't complain. In fact, they occasionally benefit from extra eggs. The only PITA neighbor is two doors away, which is far enough to not notice I even have poultry.
