Does anyone know of a good home builder in the south suburbs? I may have found my dream perfect storm property but I'll need to build a house on it. It's HUGE (too big really) but zoned for agriculture but still in the right school districts so my kids wouldn't have to change schools. It would be a huge undertaking and several months of living in a 1938 teeny farm house while the new house is being built. But I could have all the chickens I want, roosters, goats, a cow! 27 rescue huskies...a pool (my kids are competitive swimmers and I'm a swim official who runs a swim team).

I might be crazy to even think of this but I have been wanting to move to more acreage forever but the school thing has always been the sticking point. I just don't even know where to begin because no one wants to talk to you until you're basically ready to sign and without having all the ducks lined up, I can't say if this is a reality or just a pipe dream.

If it is zoned for agriculture, that may be a reason no builder snatched up the property already. Zoning changes are difficult, and usually get done with peeps having political influence/connections.
Land property gets picked up quickly, unless there are some underlying issues/problems. Example would be Flood Plain, or other.
BFF did build a home in your general area, and due to the red tape, the project took 3 years. He also used different contractors to do different portions. That is not how he planned it in the first place. Did spend a good bundle of $$$ but does have a nice home now.
Look into a possibility of having a pre-manufactured home delivered. I have a friend that chose that route in Galena Il. many years ago. It was instant, and all he had to prepare,(separately) was the foundation. These pre-made homes do limit you to single level home. They are not the ole skool mobile home.

Come in 2 sections, that get connected at your site. I see them going down the expressway often, one section following another.

I just grabbed a pix from online to give you idea what you end up with. There are many different design option if you contact manufacturer.

Consider an addition option to the small home on the grounds already. This way you eliminate the need for all the NEW UTILITY SERVICES. that can be a headache in the least.
