Illinois...

I’ve been super busy with sick babies, an in law visit, and then getting our three year old ready for a procedure tomorrow morning so I had a lot of reading to do to catch up!

We haven’t found a home for the rooster. So maybe he’s just here now 🤷‍♀️ Our little neighbor girl has been begging me to keep him and asked if she could name him tin can 😂 she’s been asking a lot of questions lately through the fence and finally worked up the courage to ask if she could come over to see them. It was fun. She’s 8 and had a lot of questions. Her favorites are the silked white Easter eggers aside from the rooster. The littles aren’t so little any more. 16 weeks tomorrow and integrated well with the old gals. It seemed incredibly smooth actually. I’m still unsure about the lavender orp. It’s pretty darn developed now. The olive egger is starting to color up. But I know that we are getting into the they could be laying soon phase so maybe you guys will have a guess.

I was hoping to get my garden cleaned up and ready to actually use but I’m not sure it will get done this year. We are going to be replacing the deck so maybe just focus on the one project. But I miss having fresh produce with my fresh eggs.

For a really random question any one know of anything to help keep spiders off my coop? Pretty sure it’s impossible but this arachnophob
Hope all goes well tomorrow!

It was lots of fun all getting together. We really should do an IL BYC gathering this year. It would be fun to have a cookout and need out on chickens.
Sooo much fun! I definitely would love to do a byc gathering and have a talk chicken day. I've got 5 acres, a creek and a trampoline. I'll offer a spot. Would need some help on the grill though. Mines rusted from lack of use......

Annie is doing good @Justso . I bought her a medium size harness and it came with a collar. The harness is let out as big as possible and the collar as small as possible.
Her favorite things are walks and sleeping in my bed. She doesn't bark for either but stares at me and then the door or the hall to the bedroom.
She is settling in quite well. The cat took a swipe at her and she snapped at the cat. I yelled at the cat for starting it. I was eating yogurt and they both already had some, but were begging for more. They didn't get any. No rewards for bad behavior

My attempt at DIY mama heat pad. I made two - one for the new pulls and ducklings and one for the 3 week old ducklings. I used seed starter mats I had on hand but don't need for the rest of the season since most of my starts are already growing. I then used some old gym towels to insulate them. The frames are made from an old tomato cage I cut sections from.

I dont think there are that many of us to need 5 acres. Or do we each get an acre for social distancing?

Usually they need to be lower so the babies backs touch. You can add more bedding and sink the mhp into the bedding to get it lower
They will yell if they are cold

So glad to hear she's settling in. I think we are all very blessed for your charity in giving her a forever home. :love
And my dog is happy to have his spot on the bed back :D

My kids alone could use all five acres... :wee:wee:wee
And they'd love the trampoline. I read about everyone; it would be fun to meet! We could all bring meats for our families. Where are you at? Oh, and I recently started homeschooling, so I'm always interested in hearing what others do 😃
