Illinois...

Oh I would never let him do that. I agree it’s mean. Abs while this guy may be a little jerk he just is doing what he thinks he should do. I get that. He will most likely end up someone else’s dinner. He’s tiny so idk how much that’s worth to anyone but 🤷‍♀️
Whew :hmm I was concerned too.
He's bigger than a quail and people eat those

@BReeder! @Molpet @homeschoolin momma
Speaking of turkeys....

Here's my little opera singer:

No! Do the garden. Just dig up a patch and drop some seeds. Sneak it in there when the other half is at work or something and then they just have to deal with it. :lol:

In serious thought, if you want a garden next year it might be a good idea to just plant something nitrifying like a bunch of peas. Also, some things are perennials that would benefit from a year without harvest like strawberries or asparagus. You might consider throwing together beds of perennial plants and then just forget about them until next year.
That's a good point. Last year I just cut sod about 6" deep and flipped it over. I put roughly 12 green bean plants in there. Minimum effort. This year food costs are already up 2.5% and only going up with inflation.

Hello all!
I have recently migrated from California by way of Arizona and Iowa to Illinois. I'm in the Quad Cities and am starting up my chicken obsession again. I had a flock in the coastal range around the SF Bay area but had to re-home all my birds due to moving to a no-flock zone in Arizona. Anyway, I am building a coop now and have ordered eggs to hatch. Cannot wait to have a flock of fuzzy-butts running around! Anyone in the QC?

Welcome to Illinois. We don't have the good weather, but we do have nice flock of people here on the IL thread.

Here's our little handicapped hen, named Coge. She's the little serama mama taking care of 3 poults, 2 Spitzhaubens, and one lav orp. It's wonderful to see her walking around again. She's stumbly but so dedicated. Motherhood seems to have given her new life and purpose.

She used to be one fast-moving, feisty girl. Other seramas were fine cooped up, but not Coge. She enjoyed her freedom and lived with the full sized chickens. I dare not let her free range, but I did let them have some time in a make-shift chicken tractor.
