Illinois...

Stinking hawk came back tonight! I kept the ladies close to home and Sasha was right on top of them. She goes to take ađź’© and I see the thing circling. Got the ladies inside in plenty of time and Sasha came running over when she was done so it never came down but I wonder how many more times he's going to visit before he moves on.

I have a coopers hawk and a larger one hanging around for the past few days. I too wish they would move on. :barnie

Time to play Pullet or Cockerel.....

These are 1 month old (hatched Sept 15th) By first week I felt the dark one was male. (slightly bigger, less skittish, and light one would always huddle under it.) Personality made me think the smaller white one was female.

Now at 4 weeks, I'm wondering if both might be male. Neither one has much comb (so it's too early to tell). The dark one is still slightly bigger, more outgoing and has a touch of wattle growth. The white one (just this weekend) is looking a bit pink in comb. I'm surprised by that. I've often had males look like this around the 2nd or 3rd week just before the comb pops up.

Last pic was taken close up and from below but shows what I mean by wattle development.

If both are male, I know I'm getting the hatching luck of @homeschoolin momma.

It will be interesting to see how they look in a week. So, get your guesses in now and test your chick sexing ability!

I guess both male LOL

To much work and not enough time here this week. It doesn't help that it's getting dark earlier either. I'm still cleaning up the yard and patio getting ready for the kids' birthday party and trying to prep for winter by getting summer toys and such put up. Inside I'm trying to process all the tomatoes and peppers from the garden as we picked everything and pulled the plants except for a few cold hardy things. I also keep trouble shooting the break lines on my second car: repair one and another one blows. Headaches!

Looks like a parallel universe situation. I'm replacing brake lines also...... but due to leakage from rusting out. My old bones do not slinky easily under car like they used to. Feeling sore in multiple areas of the body today:gig
BTW,,, If you are purchasing parts yourself??? Rock Auto has GREAT deals online. FedEx brings by in couple days,, and shipping is very reasonable. That means Rock Auto does not try to juice you. If it is something that can wait 2 days to repair,,,,,,, I choose to purchase from them.

On other subject,,,, of gardening.. Did you grow any Carolina Reapers this year?? I read the gardening thread you post to all the time,,, but I no longer respond there. Remember reading that you grew habaneros,,, and didn't realize the need for rubber gloves when chopping them.

I grew some Trinidad scorpions this year. Frankly, many of them rotted on the plant. I became afraid to try them. Lol.
I did grow habaneros and have smoked and dried or just dried many of them. I still have some fresh in the pantry I added to salsa recently and continue to use. I also froze many for future use. I keep meaning to make a fermented hot sauce. I think I'm just going to cook some hot sauce this year and attempt the ferment next year. Too busy to mess around with something new right now.
