Melted crayons can lead to all sorts of fun art effects.
There's recycling resource center (called SCARCE https://www.scarce.org/) in our county that collects, sorts, melts, & remolds crayons. When I was teaching, I collected those barely used notebooks, graph paper, colored paper, rulers, markers, scissors, etc. when we did the end of year locker clean out. I worked in a wealthy district, so the kids got new stuff every fall. I was always amazed at the haul and dropped it off. My friend Kay started this program back in the 1990s and it's a terrific resource for teachers. They have a huge selection of textbooks, educational programs, office/ classroom furniture, and helped me write grants for funding a couple classroom projects.
Several years ago DD made a melted crayon tribute to our 1st lav orp.
When DS got older, he did a similar project by holding a crayons & a heat gun and letting them drip. it's funny because both kids happened to do it on 100'F days. Crayons melted with little effort
