Illinois...

The last time an officer came to the door he was from Joliet which doesn't service here. But might adjacent to my property. He was in his car for a good 15 min and I wasn't sure what was going on but I decided to wait. He eventually came up and I met him at the door....he wanted to hunt the property 😂. I already have someone hunting.

This weekend has been "for the birds" and not in a good way! My soon-to-be-ex husband gave me covid and this morning I went out to the coop to find that 2 of the babies were bloody. I noticed one immediately because she's lighter and it was obvious. She wasn't getting up much. So I brought her in the house, cleaned her up and kept her warm. She was peeping and trying to get out of the towel so I thought maybe with mom was the best place for her because if she makes it but mom rejects her, she won't do well anyway and there's only so much I can do for her anyway. So I brought her back out, closed mom and the chicks inside the coop so the others can't bother them. Then I noticed one of the others was bleeding too! I took her and cleaned her up though she wasn't nearly as bad. Mom doesn't want anything to do with the other one. You can see she's cold but mom won't sit on her. She even tried to squeeze under her sister who wasn't having it. I'm not sure what to do with this little one. If I bring her in the house and nurse her and she makes it, what chance does she have as a solo chick that mom won't care for and the others are after all the time? But if I leave her out there with mom, she's probably not going to make it anyway. I don't like today very much at all.

Bring the 2 that are bleeding in. Hen is probably not wanting either.
I had a hen that rejected one. Wouldn't let it eat and it had to sneek in under her. I had to take it out because she kept running it off. Had a big gash

Did you ever manage to reintroduce her? I'm afraid if I bring them in, she won't ever take them back and the one left will be solo and bullied and the 2 removed won't be welcome back so I'd need to find homes for them if they make it.

I put him with a different hen. But I have had lonely only that is a pistol.

I just went to check on them. Lizzy seems unphased by her injuries. She's the one I didn't notice because her darker feathers hid the blood initially. Eowyn was still sitting there shivering but her sisters were sitting with her. I picked her up to try and get her to drink some water and she definitely has pep in her still. She's a fighter! When I picked her up, the other 2 went over by mom and once I put Eowyn down, she went by them. Millie seemed to begrudgingly let her underneath. I'm going to give it a little time and see if Millie takes care of her. The wounds are cleaned and sprayed with Blu-kote so they won't be as peck-worthy. I am so over today!
