Turkey time
Lots of hatching going on today

Poults have multiple mommies. Popcorn (serama) is the planned parent but there's a heat plate for overflow. Then there's Ranger (a visiting guest from @homeschoolin momma ) who is fascinated by watching them. I'm not so sure it's a good idea for them to imprint on a carnivore.

We also hatched our first call ducks.

Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone knew the rules on "taking donations" for meat slaughtered on our property. I have a lot of people who would be willing but unsure of the procedures I need to take if any to be able to "sell" someone meat. I say donations bc I THINK that saves me from certifications or qualifying or whatever needs to happen to actually sell.

I see people selling meat and raw milk for "dog food" on FB. ...
If given for people food, I would be worried about someone getting sick and blaming my meat. If they ate dog food probably wouldn't have a court case.

Hey y'all, I'm in Bloomington IL and I'm looking for a young Orpington roo. Anyone have one to either trade or sell or give away?
If you haven't found on in about 6 weeks, let me know. I have some eggs in the incubator. There's bound to be a male in need of a home. @homeschoolin momma also may have some in the upcoming weeks.

Right now all I have are a couple ugly showgirl roosters. (naked necks make them rather odd-looking). I'm also overwhelmed by a larger than expected turkey hatch.

If anyone in or near DuPage County is looking for French Black Marans, I was contacted via 4-H that 3, 10 wk old cockerels are in need of a home.

How many hatched?
Most of mine just went broody, still have a few hens laying.
Owl got one hen Monday. Nest raider got a nest I didn't know of out of the poultry yard. .. and a couple I knew of in the poultry yard. Still empty spots that they usually use in coops....silly birds.

@Molpet
Honestly, it's hard to count. 21 or 22 out of 24 eggs. One egg rolled out from under the broody while zipping and died. Very sad to lose one at the end like that. More than half are white so pretty happy about that.

* My hen may feel a little overwhelmed this week. I had to blukote her comb because every time she would tidbit, the dumb poults would gang up and try to eat her comb.
