Illinois...

Well my bad year just keeps getting worse. My splash chick that had the splayed legs, I believe has Marecks! I found her flopping about yesterday morning. I thought maybe a vitamin deficiency and ran up and got some poly vi sol, but she has gotten worse. This also means my 2 other splash and 5 isbars will be goners also. My worry is that even though they were down in the basement, could some of the virus been carried on my clothes, up and out to my other chickens? I guess time will tell. The new coop isn't even finished yet, and I might be done with chickens. I can't even bring myself to put the poor thing out of her misery.

We have decided to get our numbers down before winter.

We have a loving, hardy, strong layer available. "Honey" is definitely a spoiled "pet" Comes when called & will cuddle if you pick her up. She's a mix (or hybrid) & just under 2 years old.

We also have 2 Bielefelder pullets available. Hatched April 12, 2015 and already laying.
I'd love for them to go to a home with a handsome Biele roo, but any loving home is welcome.

PM me if interested in prices or want more details.

Thanks, but have been doing a lot of reading and have ask on a couple of different forums and beginning to think it might not be Marecks. People are saying she is to young for Marecks, and since she was never outside, it seems unlikely. It might be a one of a couple of different things that people have brought up. So, I am going to try to help her, and watch the others, who seem to be fine. But my poor little girl, its so sad.

Make sure to isolate the ones that may have been exposed - just in case. But I agree that it doesn't sound like Marecks. (Low risk / exposure + a young age)

Could she have gotten trampled & have a possible brain injury? I had a chick that hatched normally, but wasn't quite right a day after hatching. Fell over & was on her back frequently. Legs were fine. I isolated her for a day. Poor thing got picked on & kept flipping over. I had to add a plastic brooder divider. On her 3rd day of life, she started walking. By the end of the week, I could no longer find the weaker chick among the brood. Someone suggested that the rough & tumble siblings may have given her minor brain trauma shortly after hatching. It was certainly possible & resolved itself. I hope you have a similar situation with a happy ending.

Well they have been isolated since hatch and have been down in the basement. I have my little girl in her own brooder with a heating pad underneath the brooder and she is in a donut shaped towel to keep her from falling over. I think she is having some kind of seizure once in a while. I noticed it 3 times so far, once while she was just sitting still and twice while I was feeding her and giving her water. It looks like she is pecking, but when she was drinking it was so strong she almost put her whole face in the water. Thinking back, during and after I took off the rubberband for her splayed leg, she was doing a lot of walking backwards. Like she was dizzy or off balance. So maybe she just wasn't right at hatch, but I didn't notice because of the splayed leg. She did get trampled and jumped on by her 2 siblings, before, during and after the splayed leg issue. But no matter what, those chicks will be in isolation for another month at least. The more I read and think about it, the less I think its Marecks, but still watching just in case.

Update on Faraday40/Cookies chicks. May need to try for better pictures later but here's what we got so far today. They're very busy little chicks with no time for cuddles right now. Lol and they continue to escape/try to escape their brooder. They are very much hating quarantine lol they are also incredibly curious and the little brown pullet is more mischievous than I think any of the birds we've raised yet. ;) I always tell her she's lucky she's cute. Can't wait to see what color egg she'll lay.

The little EE roo you can definitely tell he's a boy and you can see his barring some now. He is very relaxed and easier to handle than most of the others. He reminds me of a puppy the way he just wants to sit on you and be near you. He is the biggest by quite a bit still although the little orp roo is catching up to him.

Idk if you can see her crest in this one. Her brown seems to be more tipping her feathers at this point and she definitely has a crest. She was much more interested in the carrot shavings and scratch than being a model lol I can't wait to see what she ends up looking like. :) she continues to be ring leader and the sibling that gets the rest in trouble. I couldn't figure out how they were escaping the brooder so I secretly watched last weekend and she gets all the others to help her push the netting off clothespins and all tsk tsk tsk like I said lucky she's cute.

Here is the little white one although like I said not bright white not sure what I would call the color. One of the more curious chicks and more curious about the camera therefore easier to photograph. Like I said hoping for a pullet I do so want to know what color it would lay with mommy laying pink. The picture of the comb makes it look a bit pinker than it is because of the heat lamp next to me, but what do all of you think pullet? Or not? He or she has been getting more spots. There's a feather in her(I'll say her until I know) tail that is half blue or black on the end. A spot on her neck that doesn't show in the pictures. The spots on her back and a couple more seem to be coming in. Also a spot under her right wing. She's such a little mystery lol and I love that her white doesn't seem bright white right now. We'll wait and see.

Going through the other pictures in my phone most appear very blurry will post the ones I have. Marking them is definitely in order BC two of the blacks look identical.

Thanks for the pic update. The brown one has really changed. My guess is still female b/c it's a sex-link. Can't wait to see the crest when it comes in more.

Likewise the barred one is a definite boy. I can't tell on any of the others.

There is one other, a black orp, that has a rather large comb too not as big as the barred but definitely enlarged but of course every pic of him is blurry. The brown one does still have brown but unfortunately my phone doesn't have a flash so it doesn't show the best. The one I'm really wondering on is the white because of the pea comb. You're welcome. Hope to get some more/better pics to you soon. If only chicks had a pause button lol.
