Illinois...

I will be selling some but not till they start laying so maybe in the springSo
That would be wonderful, Could you then put me on your list for a white frizzle pullet then for the spring. I have enough cockerels that I will be trying to find homes for also, besides my bantams, I have some splash Orps.

@MeepBeep just wanted to let you know that Junibutt also has some of the sport Legbars. He also was hatching some whites, just wanted to let you know of another source. And sorry to hear about the hatches, its always tough. Good luck on this next hatch though!

Kids sure love them, my 19 month old son walks by the brooder at least a few dozen times a day pointing and saying 'chickie' and the girls always want to take the birds out and play with them, they love day old chicks as they 'fit' in the Fisher-Price Little people toys, creating live action toys

You totally need to get a photo of that posted!!!

So as I might have mentioned on this thread, I have decided to get some Cream Legbar's and if I can stay focused try breeding my own line of cream legbars as well as working on my own line of potentially autosexing Easter and olive eggers...

I initially picked up a dozen eggs from a supposed 'Canadian' line that the seller was adamant didn't have any Greenfire bloodlines or heritage... When I asked the seller about their heritage, they continued to be adamant about no GF blood, but failed to provide any details of where they came from, so I doubt the claim to be true at this point, probably just pre-Rees Greenfire lines...

Only 4 of the dozen hatched, 2 roosters, a scissor beaked pullet (that will be immediately be retired from breeding) and a white star pullet... For those that might not know 'white star; is a nick name given to birds with a recessive white gene 'glitch' that is found in some cream legbar breeding lines that results in a pure white bird...

Anyway after getting the white star, I figured why not do a white spin off line just for curiosity and my own interest... So I contacted a member here that has some white stars and as luck would have it they were in California and I was going to California a week later, so I arranged to pickup some egga, due to molting season she was only able to provide me with 5 eggs... They were from a new breeding hen that has white in her lineage but it's unknown if said has the white gene, said hen was bred to a known split to white roo, so worst case some should be split and I might get some full whites... I carried those 5 eggs as carry on luggage for my flight back and all 5 took off and are due this Friday... They have origins in early pre-Rees Greenfire...

I had also ordered a dozen Greenfire Rees origin eggs from another member here, they were shipped and arrived in horrible shape, outside of box looked fine, but some egg were cracked/smashed, lots of detached and floating air cells and in the end not a single one took off... The seller was gracious enough to send me another dozen for just additional shipping cost... I candled those tonight they all have partially detached air cells, but no floating air cells, 9 out of the 12 are doing well, 2 others appear to be doing well, but I can't fully see the embryo as the veins disappear behind the partially detached air cell, and only 1 out of the 12 so far has given up, looks like a day two quiter from candling...

Now I have to see if I stay focused on breeding them for the next few years or if i just get lazy like I have been with my Black Sumatras that I was supposed to breed this year...

I was going to suggest, that on my shipped eggs that have ended up with blown air saks or even free floaters, I was told to not turn them at all for for the first 4-5 days and it has helped on some of my hatches. Good Luck!

I thought my kids were the only ones to do that!

Mine are older, so sometimes a chicken comes in for some hmwk or to play Barbies.

Lol haha

Once you start filling up the coops with LF, you may want to move on to the bantams. We love the big docile breeds, but the bantams are great for a laugh. Cookie has given us more stories than most and certainly has a lot of personality in that little chicken. Trouble (our Sebright) is also heading in the same direction. I doubt I'll ever personally keep a flock of bantams, but they're just fun. (And in both cases, the bantams were hatched for fun. Never planned on keeping either, but now can't imagine our flock without them.)

They are not fancy or anything, but is anyone interested in some Barred Rock roosters? I have 15 that I need to decide what to do with. They are almost 9 weeks now.

:) we're ahead of you on bantams. We have our golden laced sebright, Lacey, our little oegb rooster, Nugget, 6 Silkies(Cotton, Kramer, Ginger, Lovey, Mary Anne, and one more that we aren't sure on gender yet), a bantam barred cochin, Beatrice, and a self blue oegb pullet, Crocket. We also have a pair of black oegb, Minnie and Mickey.

So you can see we have quite a few and I still want more. All of our chickens have a ton of personality except maybe a few of the large fowl ones and almost all adore people so we've been very blessed. I do think you guys need a silkie or two ;) of all of our birds some of my favorites are our silkies also our oegb are wonderful birds with lots of personality and they love to talk to us. Crocket thinks she's a parrot always wants on us much like your Trouble sounds. Also amazingly our bantams lay incredibly well. Beatrice gives us an egg almost every single day and so does Ginger. Crocket has only been laying a couple weeks but rarely takes a day off.

@Pixie

Also how much are you asking for the little cockerals and where are you located? Feel free to PM me.

Also I forget who it was who was interested but one of our silkies is a buff and I'm hoping to hatch some of her eggs in the spring (fingers crossed for some more little buffs) however I'm not really sure what the chicks might turn out like as we have a white rooster and what I would call a red partridge rooster. So they won't be pure but maybe some might be buff let me know if you're still interested come spring.

@Faraday40
That's one of the nice things because we don't live in town the rules are very very allowing of my habit ;) lol its just when DH2B says no more, but we're only at 30 right now so there's lots of room for growth lol also he seems to be deciding that our of all the breeds we have his favorites are orps so I can get more and more colors! :) oh boy well I guess there are much worse addictions I could have.
