Well I know its Spring when the pair of migrating ducks, come and spend a couple of weeks swimming around in my neighbors pool, actually pool cover filled with water. They arrived this morning, and my chickens were taken back when they heard the splash down and quacks! As long as they don't decide to come join my guys, it will be ok with me. I do enjoy watching them.
Well my Little Giant incubator is filled to the gills! I had to order a new heater with a fan to help circulate the heat and help with the hot and cold spots. I had a still air prior. But the new motor came today. Took less than 7 minutes to change out. Hoping it will give a better even temperature throughout. Covered the eggs that were already in the incu with a couple of towels to help retain heat. While I was working on that, my first little SL egg hatched over in my brinsea. SO cute! Hopefully, I will be greeted by the other SL and the 2 Orp chicks that are suppose to hatch today also.
Sounds like my babies are becoming big girls now! Are they still just as lovable?@Faraday40
We got a softshell egg broken in the nest box last night. I can't be sure but I would guess that it's either Jasmine, Cinder, or Ella's first egg! So very very proud of them. Saw our roo Twitch breeding Jasmine today as well as one of the black orps but was too far away to see which one.
@Faraday40 Sounds like Cuddles is doing well, you never know. I want to hear about your Eco Glow like heater. I am going to try something that I found on one of the threads here. Its called Mamas heating pad brooder. Now I use a heating pad underneath the brooder, but apparently, these people use hardware cloth to make like a cave, put the heating pad on top, and the chicks go in to warm up. The plus here, is that they put the chicks directly out in the coop with this method. Separated of course, but they say the chicks feather out more quickly and integration is much easier. Going to try.Haven't had much computer time lately. Been a busy week with a sick hubby, kids' school projects, a house guest from FL, teaching several classes, and building a brooder & EcoGlow-like heater... in my spare time. (I'll post pics when it's fully completed.) Anyway, my test hatch eggs are in lock down & I hope to see chicks on Tues.
Cuddles Update: She's back up in the pecking order & enjoying life in her flock. She still has a very firm abdomen & feels bony. She's at least eating & drinking.
