Illinois...

I have hatched probably dozens of 'breach' eggs and almost all of them have hatched, but some do need intervention... I wait at least 24 hours after the pip and if no progress is made, I will then open up the pip a little bit and tap on the egg trying to encourage the chick to get a move on it... If after a few more hours of no progress then I slowly assist the hatch as long as the blood is out of the membrane... If the pip is large and you see it drying out, I fold up a paper towel with one corner not folded in and wet it with warm water, then set it next to the egg and lay the unfolded corner on the membrane a bit, the membrane will then wick water slowly out of the paper towel and get soft again without drowning the chick...

If you look at my picture of the 'breach' pipped egg a few post above, you will see that I cut about a 1/2" ring out of a toilet paper roll to use as a cradle for the egg, this allows me to position the pip top dead center so that no fluids left in the egg block the breached hole, can't say if it's necessary but it works for me...
Great idea with the toilet paper roll. I can probably put it in an small egg carton as well. However my pip is a lot bigger than you had plus since its 2 days early I am afraid of intervention. Last time I did that, the chick took 2 days to lift its neck.

How about putting under the broody, maybe she will help it out?

She might assist, can't really say, but if she is sitting on other eggs she might abandon them once that one hatches...
Thats true! the eggs under her are the same age as this one, but they may take another day or so before pipping. Well, I guess I will wait till tomorrow and put it upright with some wet paper towel trick and lets take it from there.

WARNING;; CHICKEN KEEPING CAN BE CONTAGIOUS
Today my neighbor calls me over as I was walking my dogs and said he had something to show me. YES, he got 6 beauties.. all hens a barnyard mix. He cant wait for eggs.

Now we both can sit under a shade tree enjoying iced tea and talk chicken stories and chicken stories, and then some more chicken stories.

Happy to report that the chick hatched successfully on its own. Of the incubator eggs, 1 more has hatched, 4 more are pipped, and its only Day 20 just started.

@Faraday40 and anyone else who has experience with slipping chicks under a broody, please advise whats the best way to do it. Any videos would help as well.

I have 2 chicks hatch in the incubator but the broody hasn't hatched any under her yet. I lifted her and there is only 1 pipped.

Shall I wait till her chicks hatch?
How do I do it? I am assuming in the dark? Should I place the chicks under her from her back? under the wings? etc.

Thanks!

The easiest way is to wait until the hen's chicks are hatching & slip same age chicks under her. I do it during the day so I can observe periodically. (It's already darkened & quiet in the nest area.) There's really not much to it. Just put the chick(s) under her. She's likely too busy "talking" to her chicks/eggs to notice. Mine aren't too pecky, so as long as I'm not digging around under her, she allows me to to slip them under her wing. They crawl under & get lost in the fluff. If yours likes to peck at your hand, just make sure to protect the chick from the broody beak. I have best results if I slip the chicks in right after hatching & drying. At that time, they're not walking around much and are content to stay under mama and learn her call.

Mission successful! Thanks so much for your help. To my surprise, this went much more smoothly than anticipated. I just had to trick her by taking two of her chicks first and then giving them back one by one along with six from the incubator. Not a single complaint from her. Good for us chicken can't count. I guess timing was the key here. She still has 3 eggs under her that may hatch tomorrow. Day 21 has just started.

Here are a few pics of the chicks that hatched:

Above 2 Pics are of a mauve orpington. It is from a choc mom so gender cannot be determined at this time. Its very friendly and active so I hope its not a boy.

Above is a mauve orpington x Legbar cross. I can't figure out if its blue cuckoo or mauve. Seems too dark to be mauve but since its a hybrid, who knows the shades might be different. If its a blue cuckoo, it will be a boy, mauve-a girl

3 chicks together- From top- mauve orpington, blue cuckoo (possibly), chocolate barpington (orpington x legbar)

Congrats on the hatch and integration! Adorable babies, and kind of drooling over the "maybe" blue cuckoo
