Illinois...

I'm getting rid of my old chicken tractor that I never use anymore. It does need a little bit of repair, one of the base boards is cracked but it works great. I never lost a chicken in it! PM me.

Is it normal for color to vary this much? Its also quite a bit smaller. Or is it a different chicken? The one on the left I grabbed yesterday right after Peaches left the box. The one on the right we just collected. It was in the same box that Peaches has been using. It just is so much smaller and lighter in color.

It looks like a diff chicken's egg to me.

So do I have a brown egg laying EE or has Pepper the Wyandotte started in secret.... Licorice is more vocal than Pepper, but neither squat and they are about the same level of red.

My Welsummer may be joining the laying club with your pullets. I just noticed that she's starting to look red. (Hatched March 4th)

Even my blue orp, Jewel, is getting red. For me that is strange since my lav orps can take 7-9 months to lay their 1st egg. She also hatched March 4th.

Jewel is Oopsie's chick. Oopsie came from @Junibutt and has a lovely round shape. Unlike my lav orps, she matured faster & was my 1st LF orp to go broody. (But I think Jewel got some size from her Daddy = Moose.) Oopsie just left her chicks this week & started laying again. What a pro!

I just yesterday told husband how pretty Sassafras (our Welsummer) has gotten. They are so gorgeous. I am trying to spy on the chickens as much as I can to figure out who is the other egg laying gal. Peaches, Pepper and Licorice all look ready, and hang out a lot more in the coop. The eggs are being laid in the same nesting box, but I saw licorice digging around in a different one this morning... Who needs tv or a crime novel when you can spend time trying to solve egg mysteries. I am gonna be bummed if it is Licorice and she doesnt have pretty blue or green eggs.

Poor Cinnamon is the only one of the original four who doesnt even look close. She still has a small very light pink comb. Even some of the middle chickens are starting to look closer. Meringue the austra white is getting darker and she is now at almost 14 weeks. And so is our brahma. I keep looking for some male feathering to come in, or to hear a crow, but none of that has happened. However its got as much color as the austra white. I am taking that as a not so good sign, but there arent any other signs. So who knows. I am in no hurry to figure that out yet.
