Well I havent had much egg luck since a few days ago with the light colored egg... this is all that we have found

Not very pretty. Pretty sure its Peaches since its the darker color. It was sad after her having two pretty perfect eggs to find this.. I know laying can be spotty in the beginning, but I was hoping we would be at least getting mostly normal eggs.
Hope she's OK. I never got an egg like that, but hopefully it's just her body's way of getting started.

Last night Princess Lay-a dropped an egg while on the roost at night & this morning I found a shell-less egg. (Possible from a new pullet) That's why I was asking about the fireworks. There are several small rental houses nearby & they seem to go all out with the fireworks this year. Egg production's OK, but I think one of those big boomers scared the eggs out of 'em!

We had a small campfire with the kids & decided to watch the show as we roasted marshmallows. (i also used some of our cherries to make "pudgie pies" What we call those mini campfire pies.) This morning we did the Hinsdale parade and tonight we'll go to the Westmont fireworks. DD of course wanted to bring her silkie along to both, so we had to explain again why big loud scary noises are not appropriate for chickens. LOL

You are not a bad chicken mama. If she lays another you can check then. I am sure she will be fine.

Now on to the strange story. My girl Clara, she is one of my original hatchery girls, she has taken over the breeding of my flock. LOL, Caught her mounting Coco my chocolate orpington this morning, since Mr. Wonderful left us unexpectedly. Hopefully my black Orp will be coming of age soon, so Clara doesn't become too confused.

I also have to add, that I really like the new setup, I am able to garden again without anyone eating or destroying my garden. Warning adding garden pics.

Here's a fun pic. The grandparents bought DS a bow & arrows. We made a target of the of boxing materials & he had a great time. I snapped a few pics to send them out as a thank you. DD took one look & pointed out that Moose was mating the hens in the background. Oops I didn't catch that. LOL

Update. Husband actually threw the egg in the garbage in the garage, and it was the only thing in there. He cracked it and it was a normal looking egg inside. He said there was a thinner shell inside of the scary looking outside too. But not meaty tissue looking stuff.

That's actually very good news!

I caught Oopsie enjoying her 4th of July with a good dirt bath.

Brick, being our perfect roo, stood guard as the girls relaxed. He even fanned Bubbles to keep his girls cool. LOL

GL Orp #1 (aka Grumpy) Was 1st to hatch but at moment is the runt. Seems weaker/thinner than the rest but still hanging on.

GL Orp #2
Hatched with a goofy eye & seemed to struggle at hatch. Now is very spunky & fast.
