Illinois...

Love the pic, & yes, they're getting bigger! I'm surprised they didn't learn how to escape sooner. Mine usually hop out during week #2 if I don't have a lid. That's why I always tell the teachers not to keep chicks past the 1st week.

However, your chicks seem to be even more advanced. Make sure to hide your keys before the little ones learn how to drive themselves to the feed store for treats.
I built a screened cover yesterday with some chicken ire sandwiched between two wooden frames made of 1"x2" lumber I had on hand. It seems to be working fine. Hopefully the weather starts to warm up so I can get them in the coop, which is nearly finished. I just need to get another piece of plywood to complete the roof and some hinges for the door, roof hatch, and roll-away nesting box covers.

Happy Easter everyone!

Anyone know why I always take the kids' pics with them holding something?
(It's so they stop hitting/ tickling / teasing each other long enough to snap a photo!)

Well I think this'll do me in:
Tri-K Pigeon & Bantam Club (Festivals and Special Events)
04/08/18 - 04/08/18 5am-Noon
Venue: Kankakee County Fairgrounds
Featuring farm animals, poultry, pets, exotic animals and related items.

I'd better start that coop expansion. while I'm at it maybe I should start a goat pen too.

I'm thinking about going too. (Just thinking so far) It's a long drive from DuPage and very, very early. I've heard the best animals sell out quickly. Then there's the problem of what I would find & possibly buy....

Have you tried this one: http://allanimalexpo.com/ ? It's right here in DuPage and has a later start. Years ago (long before kids) I used to go to Lee Watson's reptile swap. It was a long drive but always an interesting way to spend the morning. Now it's right here at the fairgrounds. I'm thinking of taking my DD since she's off tomorrow. (Normally Sat mornings are filled with dance lessons & teaching.)

Does the animal expo normally have chickens? I'm in DuPage county as well, and as much as I like the Kankakee swap, I do not like the early morning drive.

Long ago when it was held in Lee Watson's barn, the reptiles & exotics were set up and sold inside. Misc. livestock was outside. (ie- rabbits, ducks, chicks, etc. Once in a while goats & baby pigs) Many of the critters were very cheap to be fed to the reptiles. I bought my fair share of cheap rabbits & guinea pigs - but as pets.

I only went to the fairgrounds show 1-2xs. It's much cleaner & the dealers have professional signs & cages. (No more cardboard boxes / pillow cases filled with snakes. LOL) The admission was a bit more too. Before it was mostly reptiles & a few other misc critters. They seemed to have a lot more variety of species now.

I was all set to go this morning but DD had some anxiety about going. I'm bummed because I really wanted to see prairie dogs, sugar gliders, & hedgehogs. I also wanted to see if I could find a mod game bantam breeder. However, I've learned not to push her too hard. I know she'd love it, but in her head she's convinced it will be awful.

Maybe DS & I will have a mother-son outing instead.

It should have chicks. Some are sold as feeders for snakes. (a good use for all those extra cockerels) Being spring, I'd be surprise if they didn't have chicks.
