Illinois...

Unrelated to chickens, but I finally uploaded DD's dance recital. She & her friend really stole the show. (My opinion, of course, but all the little pre-ballet students certainly cheered loudly for them at the end. LOL) You can skip through it, but I know DD & her friend would appreciate any Youtube "likes" you could give.

Congrats!!! Mama. They are so sweet when they are that little. Mine are getting feathers and they are not so cute now! But I still love them. I have 3 BO, 3 black Jersey Giants, 4 Cinnamon Queens, 2 Smmer ? (Kellogg's cereal rooster)

That's Welsummer cockerals. :)

Okay Faraday40 I will have to watch later. Running around like a you know what. ;)

Today's hatch day, but it's a strange one.
2 turkeys hatched last night

1 chick hatched this afternoon (should be a blue silver laced orp :love)

about 6-7 pips

I'd say I'm having a day late hatch - except that 2 hatched early.
Never hatched turkeys before, so I'm pretty excited.

Today's Pics so far
(The turkeys were moving about - until I put my hand there. Instant snuggling)

This is my "chick explosion" week.
I have about 2 doz chicks (2.5 wks old) remaining from all the preschool hatchings, and now my own incubator is hatching. Add a penciled rock who stole another batch of eggs from her flockmates. She's crazy broody! How do chickens even carry eggs from one nest box to another?

aww cuties :love
They tuck the eggs under their wing and some have seen them with an egg being held between beak and chest.

We're having a very strange hatch.
Hatch date was supposed to be yesterday - Fri

2 early turkeys on Thurs
1 chick & some pips on Fri
Around midnight got a 2nd chick
Since this morning, we've been getting a chick every couple hours.

We're up to 2 turkeys & 10 chicks. There are still 3 pips & more eggs without pips, so this drawn-out hatch continues. I really, really hope another turkey hatches. Sadly there are no pips on the remaining 4 eggs.

At least there is more than one turkey... would be sad if just one lonely poult... but he would have chicken buddies.... My hen is still laying. Even though she is spending a lot of time on the nest on old eggs... I have 8 eggs , I could give you half if you want to try again.... I want afew to put under her if she stays sitting...... I have two chickens sitting on six eggs each.

Well I'm headed out to Garfield Farm in La Fox today, they're having their Heritage Farm breed show. I'll report back on what I see!
Wish me luck that I don't come running back hoarding a bunch of chicks.
Except for maybe a cute black Java. Show starts at 11 a.m. $6 at the door

I'm up to 12 chicks & 2 poults this morning.
Out of curiosity, I quickly candled 2 turkey eggs last night. Both looked good, so I'm going to wait it out for now. I can't say why the 2 hatched early, but it won't hurt to keep the incubator going for a few more days.

I read on another thread here that incubating turkey eggs requires a slightly higher humidity at lockdown time. You might consider researching that if it has any merit.. :idunno Supposedly makes the egg shells easier to pip.:idunno
