Illinois...

Had fun taking a few pics of the Spitz today. (I rarely got all 6 in a pic. LOL) After I was done I put them in a storage tub to be carried back outside. Of course, that's when they all jumped up along the ledge & sat in a row.

They are such goofy & fun birds! 5 have perfect mohawks. One (bottom right corner) has more of a flat top.

Great photos....

...as always!!

We are down sizing our hen flock for our new chicks. Sex links, Easter eggers, 3 Cochins, 1 RIR, and 1 Lavender Orp. If anyone interested PM me to get my phone #. Age of them is 15 months. Located 35 miles west of Rockford.

I'd love to get some from you, but I already have 18 of your eggs in my incubator (along with 13 other eggs) and with the other ones that I have coming, it would be a bit crowded.

They are so cute!

I live in woodstock/Marengo (McHenry county)... not far from farm and fleet. It is fun to follow the thread of chicken peeps in my area. I have a mixed flock of 34 birds. I am lead volunteer for great dane rescue midwest, and I have a pack of big dogs too!

Welcome to our club.

Well its not a club , but a gathering of like minded peeps in this area. I at times have visited that Blains' store when coming back from Rockford. They probably have live chicks for sale in the center aisle now. I like the feed prices compared to some of the other feed stores. Most likely because it is targeted at farm prices. The city feed stores have a larger markup since their volume is lower.
BTW my dogs are lunch for your kind.

I wish Blain's was closer as I really like the store but I'm right in the middle between the Woodstock and Sturtevant, WI stores, so it's a hassle to go to either... With that said I did just go up to the Sturtevant Blain's this weekend as we were already up in Kenosha, WI shopping at Woodman's... I picked up 6 bags of 18% chick starter on sale, it's not medicated and for 50 cents more a bag then the 16% layer it makes a cheap higher protein 'all flock' feed for my mixed flock... I also picked up a goat salt lick when I was there not something many places carry, as well as some egg cartons as my egg customer that buys cartons (as a thank you) never bothers to return his and thus the supply was dwindling... The feed alone is actually worth the drive if I'm in the area as it saves me about $2-3 a bag over local prices, plus they have better hours then the local feed store...

I have to say, the chick's I have purchased over the years from farm and fleet have always been healthy and vigorous. We live entirely too close to the store and spent way too much money there. Cavemanrich, your pups are adorable. My dogs adore small dogs and are well behaved with my free range chickens. I raw feed, so eating steak everyday spoils them. My female will let the hens steal her food if I feed her outside.

I am very pleased to be joining your 'club'. I am as chicken obsessed as I am dog obsesed. Thank you for the gracious welcome.

Woodstock! That's not far from me out in Spring Grove. I'm actually going to be taking a trip that way tomorrow since I need to visit the DMV and get my license renewed. Dogs are really great and it's awesome that you volunteer your time to rescuing them! I'm more of a cat person myself though, with the recent interest in chickens. :)
