Illinois...

Hello y'all,
I live in Northern Illinois by the Marango and Woodstock area and I have a six month old male pekin duck I need to rehome.
He is healthy, and never has been sick to my knowledge. I need to rehome him because he has no other duck friends, and can not be with my hens because he tried to mount one. Also my fear is this winter he will freeze if he does not have anything to cuddle up with. He is nice, except he is a bit hard to catch alone, and he likes to untie shoes.
If you want him, he is free but you will have to pick him up.
Let me know if you have any questions, and have a good afternoon.

:welcome sorry I don't have any duck, but I hope you find him a good home.

Well I FINALLY got around to processing the taterhead tom.
He was the one that would attack me unless he had high protein turkey feed ONLY.. no grass or weed seeds or berries or garden produce. So much for free ranging:he
He had buggered up his foot a couple of weeks ago and when it was hurting he left me alone. How often does the bird you need to get rid of is the one that gets hurt  God works in mysterious ways is all I can say.
I was taking him off the roost in the am and had hopes he would change .. when his foot was better he started up after me again. So I didn't help him and he injured it again :smack
I figured I better do it before he went into full molt... when I carried him he was as calm as could be and if his foot hadn't been bad I don't think I could have done him in. :hit

He was 2 1/2 yrs old and I miss him even though he ripped open my legs.
He was a nari, 20lbs dressed and those feathers coming in under the skin are a bear to get out:barnie

It's not even 9am & we've already had 3 hawk attacks. (Thankfully all birds are safely locked up. I don't let the flock out to free range until 8am.) After seeing the hawk walking on the ground next to the run when I went out to open the door, I decided not to let them free range yet. I put the turkeys, bantams, & chicks into the chicken tractors. When I went into the garage to refill feeders, the hawk returned. And again, Just as I was about to shower I heard horrible chicken screams & saw the hawk trying to get into the tractor cage with Trouble & her chicks. UGH!

The poor birds spent most of yesterday inside (for the same reason).

I feel like the hawks started earlier this year! Have had everyone locked up tight as a drum.

One of my kids' fav books was Tille Lays an Egg. (a picture book Hide N Seek for the egg from a hen who lays everywhere but the nestbox) In the story, Tillie is a leghorn who loves to explore & eat worms. We hatched some leghorns and kept one for DS. He named her Tillie.

This is Tillie (hatched May 1, 2018)

Unlike all the other Leghorns I have hatched in the past (for my classrooms), this one enjoys to be around people. She's sweet but also likes to explore & get into things. ie - flew to the top of the swingset to hang out with the turkeys, climbed a tall tree by hopping up the branches, found a way to squeeze into the fenced garden, explored the garage in search of scratch, etc. Because of her adventures, she earned the nickname "Silly Tillie." She started laying a week ago & has made an egg daily ever since.

Yesterday she was missing for a while. We eventually found her. She hopped the fence and discovered a cozy place in our screened room ( Half of it is used for misc. storage.) Just like the book, can you figure out where Tillie laid her egg?

I really needed this lighthearted comical distraction yesterday = chicken therapy. It was a rough day & I'll share more about it later.
