Can you imagine the package of rotting eggs being delivered to the wrong address?
Poor Unfortunate Recipient: "Oh boy! Someone sent me a Christmas present!" and after opening it........ "Ugh! However did I end up on the naughty list?!"
My inner Grinch is laughing right now. :lau

On another note, I think that the mystery egg is from the Lav orp. Her comb was always just like the Blue Laced's comb. Now it is much darker in comparison. I didn't check her vent. She is not exactly fond of being held by me. My wife has much better luck holding the Orps.

The egg color & shape looks like my lav orps. (Most of my laced girls tend to have more round / less oval eggs. Also not as much pinkish tint.) However, my speckled sussex has a nice pinkish hue as well. I have sometimes accidentally mixed her eggs in with the lav orps.

I have a new orp layer here as well. The large eggs look more like a hen returning to lay rather than a new pullet.... but I'm playing the guessing game for now. I'll figure it out soon. I tend to go outside frequently to check on the chickens, so when I catch the egg as it comes out of the hen, I'll know for sure. LOL

I went out to put the hens away. I just now got to collect eggs because we had company today and we were rather occupied. To my delight, I found 4 eggs in the best boxes! I have not had 4 eggs in 1 day since the summer, and this is only the second or third time we have had a 4 egg day. I previously was disappointed in what I thought were my cuckoo marans' eggs, but I must have been wrong. She must have waited to lay. This is the first time we ever have had an egg this dark (bottom egg in pic). I heard marans could take some time to start laying, but 9 months seems extraordinarily long. I hope she keeps it up.

Hello all

Yesterday was a bad day around here for us as we had to put down our 18 year old kitty Pepper.

Overnight(2 days) she went blind and lost the use of her back legs.

Causes include high blood pressure, she was found to have. Possibly also cancer, natural or accidental spinal damage, kidney failure or even something else entirely.

We made the right choice but are totally mourning the loss.

So sorry you had to put your pretty Pepper down. We've all lost pets at times, & it's so hard. Just know that you gave her a good life and lots of love over the years.
:hugs

Hey peeps! I did some candling this evening just before dinner. I used a samsung galaxy phone flashlight and a piece of egg cylinder foam. It worked OK. A candler would be better for the darker eggs I am sure. The highlight moments were catching a few heartbeats! That wad really cool. Here are a few pics I managed to get. They are not the best quality. I couldn't get good video of the heart beats.

Any strong light source will work. I candled with a strong LED flashlight some eggs just for fun with the grandchildren.
The risk with using a Samsung Galaxy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, your Quail will hatch, and ALL WANT THEIR OWN PHONES. Maybe even the iPhone xs
