Speaking of pipping and hopeful zipping, I need to get the brooder in order.
Amazing how that had slipped my mind. Going to do it now.

I've been telling DH2B that we need to do it before they're back in the fields.

No poults or pullets yet... we have both in the incubator. The turkey eggd are on day 27 and thre chicken eggs are on day 20. The scheduled hatch day is tomorrow, but @Molpet tells me these turkeys tend to hatch a day early.
The one that turkey egg that pipped as enlarged the home a bit and I did see it peck again when I shined a flashlight to see in the incubator just a few minutes ago. Should sed some zipping any moment (aka hour) now. No other pips yet that I see.

I put the 12 turkey eggs under two turkeys. I have another turkey hen sitting on bait eggs and a chicken too.
In the incubator are 4 of my chickens eggs and 12 white laced red Cornish. Those all are due on the 3rd and 4th. 11 white Cornish are due the 8th. Hopefully I will get a few of the shipped eggs.

Its 65. Water droplets all the plexy window. I will try adding more warm water to the tray along with a good misting. I just hate openkng thd incubator during hatch.

Run a straw through the vent and use a turkey baster or funnel to add water

The 1st chick is out! (Serama, of course)

The preschool actually had the 1st chick. (The teacher went in tonight to check on them & got to see it hatch.) Their serama egg from the Incuview hatched at 8pm, & the one in this Coolerbator hatched at 8:45pm. It's likely the other 2 incubators also have serama chicks hatching tonight. The actual hatch day is Tues, but I told the schools that the seramas would likely hatch on day 19.

Had an exciting day picking up the new chicks!
I decided to try a farm breeder out near prophetstown IL., Sunset Barn Family farm. Angie the flockster had a nice selection to choose from, including a couple of breeds that I wanted to get for a while. They allow pickup. I really enjoyed her tour and it was nice to hear her philosophy on why she chooses the breeds. The short story is that she chooses breeds that have good production of good sized eggs, as well as color variety. A

as chickens she also has a heritage turkey that I almost tucked under my arm and left with. The tom dutifully followed us around displaying his colors the whole time but maintaining a polite distance. It was baby animal day there, she had lambs, calf, puppy. She also had a few ducks on property and said she had guineas that tucked away somewhere.

Of course now that the chicks are back here, I'm going to be agonizing all night are whether they're warm enough or not. I predict rising up every 2 hours to check on them. Every time I say "never again!"

BTW I came away with welsummer pullet, Silverudd, speckled Sussex, and a bonus Maran and olive egger.

I have heard and spoke with Angie before. Really nice lady. Im picking up a couple of CCL's for Faraday and myself and somw welsh harlequins for my DH. Hopefully as soon as i get back home. Need to message her to see if they are close to ready. Glad to hear you were well pleased at her barn!

We have a second pip! (Three may be more I cannot see without moving the eggs.)
The first one to pip is now zipping.
I hear chirping from time to time too. It's surprising how noisy they are before they even hatch.
