Illinois...

Two spitzies and the black ee are home. A spitzie and the black chicken accidentally found themselves in my neighbors fenced in yard with his newfies. One of the newfies was chewing on the black ee. We saved her just in time while the spitzie flew back over the fence. Sportzington is still missing.
If you didn't find feathers there is still hope.
:fl

To cheer up everybody's day, here is some pics of our ducklings. An garbage can lid has made a nice shallow pond for them. Their chick roommate doesn't care for it much, but doesn't seem to mind it either. They are growing well. I have to be carefull about the temp. Its hot during the day and cool at night. I was running a 45 watt infared heat lamp to boost the temp just a bit. They didnt seem to sit under it much and then the bulb blew out. I am going to get a new one to be safe, but they really seem to be doing well.

@Molpet, this is tge chick we hatched from your eggs. She is doing well and is friendly to her duckling roommates. Any idea of her breed? I recall we'r had some cornish cross and something else I think. There wad some confusion about which egg she hatched from.

The night before it had only taken us a half hour or so to get her up to bed. The next night and the night after she has refused to go up at all. We don't want to further traumatize her before we get a lifting harness thingy so we have been letting her stay downstairs on her bed.
I used to sleep in the basement in the summer, but the dog can''t do the steps any more so I don't any more
Glad MIL is doing well

They are cute
I think HE (judging by comb color) is cute too, but I could be wrong because the comb is small.. The Dad was a barred cx mix, not sure which. The Mom is most likely part black jersey giant or could be one of Dinners daughters, out of the part BJG....that would explain a small comb

My micro chicken died. She didnt seem right last night so she sleep in the inky with a spitzie friend. She chirped for hours. She was still chirping, trying to get under the spitzie like she wasnt warm enough. Put her bck this morning with the others and she just kept chirping. Went to check on her this evening and found her under the brooder dead. Been a bummer two days.:hit

Sorry to hear. After putting so much effort into hatching and brooding, it's hard when you lose one.

Yea, I have been basing between cockerel and hen. I will figure it out eventually. Unfortunately, we cannot keep cockerels. A stupid local ordinance forbids them. So if it is a cockerel, it will end up on a chopping block. In have been really hoping (probably blinded by my hope) that it is a hen since it's a lone survivor and we have room for 1 more hen. The same stupid ordinance limits us to 8 chickens. :rant My chicken run is ~240 square, which could certainly hold more than 8 chickens... I just might be crazy and break the law one of these days.
