Illinois...

I could always take a big beautiful girl....lol.:gig

My "Mr. Wonderful" aka Taji (supposed to mean silver in Japanese) is just that. Wonderful. He definitely inherited his personality from his father. He runs to the gate EVERYTIME I go through it. Last night I actually had to carry him to the coop because he just wanted to be with me.:love
Aww. He does sound sweet. My "Wonderful" is also carried around daily. (To the garage & chicken traitor & back) It's funny watching the kids carry him under one arm with his feet dangling. Such a gentle, patient rooster.

If I have an extra girl come fall, I'll let you know. I'm definitely saving the Spitzes for you. I think DS is going to pick the Leghorn, & for egg production, I don't mind keeping a 2nd one around. Then, out of the blue, he's falling in love with a serama chick. ....Just what I need, another useless chicken! His affections just started a couple days ago, so perhaps it's just a fling. LOL

My Mom came over to see the babies and fell in love! So many she had to help us hold them!

The number still stands at 9. One is pretty little but lively.

@Faraday40 how did you use to deal with it if your doe had more than 8 babies since rabbits only have 8 nipples?

3 are black and 6 are broken black.
:love
Babies!!!!

I can't say I held mine much when that young. (Just enough to make sure they all their limbs.) I usually mated does in pairs, so they would be due at the same time. I'd put a drop of vanilla on the doe's nose (to mask her sense of smell) and then swap babies if needed. Nine was the most I had a doe successfully raise. (11 was the biggest litter, but some were given to another mother.) I'd probably keep all of yours with the mama. If the small one gets smaller, then pull it out to bottle/syring feed. I did that once for 4 rejected bunnies. Three made it. It took a lot of TLC, but as a young teen I found the time & patience to nurse them with KMR. I wouldn't recommend trying it. It's truly a last resort kind of thing. (It took a few frustrating days for them to learn how to use the eye dropper. Also, the mama helps them urinate, so I had to use a warm wet paper towel to ..... But again, I had no other option because the doe kept kicking them out of the cage.

I hope Buddy's OK. (He's a real sweetheart and adds a lot of personality to your flock.)

I'm trying to sell as many chicks as possible. The white was being saved for someone - who "forgot" about her vacation- so white orp's back on the market. The customer will buy her IF she's still here in 2 weeks. I had a feeling the remaining laced orp was male, and when people ask, that's what I've been saying. (My honestly of course made this beauty less desirable. If he ends up being male, perhaps I'll have a new "Mr Wonderful." If female, she's going to be BIG and beautiful! )

Trouble has another batch of chicks, and the last batch of eggs are due in a week. Plenty of chicks here. Then there's all the adorable little seramas. They're like "Tribbles"! (Star Trek reference) They just keep multiplying & the silkied ones even look like tribbles.

Rabbits: I was a teen & would just find out my rabbits gave birth once I saw the babies. I didn't keep track or know exact due dates - just the week. I knew which ones were bred, tolerated the crabbiness and watched as they got fat. Perhaps my rabbits ate the afterbirth for a little extra protein because I never saw it. Mine had wooden hutches filled with hay, so it could have simply been cleaned out during the reg house-keeping. (I'm pretty sure I left the mean pregnant does alone & skipped cleaning their cage when overly aggressive. They were a lot nicer when not pregnant.)

Both grow very large, so hard to miss after a month or 2. LOL

Winter squash is more like pumpkins - vines spread & they take over
Thanks. I know those plants though. Those are the rows I did successfully weed. :)
I don't know broccoli and cabbage.

Awesome! :bun
What breed of rabbit are they? I would possibly want some in the future. We have been considering rabbits for awhile now, especially if they are cold hardy so I can keep them in the shed through the winter rather than bringing them into the house.

These are New Zealands eventually we would like to add or possibly switch to another rarer heritage breed.

Ours are pedigreed (although we are still waiting on the pedigree for our blue doe that had this litter, as well as the pedigree of the buck that fathered them).

They're friendly and curious and sweet. Although the blue doe was a bit hormonal when pregnant she was much less so than many other does I've heard of.

Also if you're interested in getting started soon with rabbits and possibly want them from me I would suggest getting a baby from this hatch and a couple from our future batches.

Because we have three unrelated does and an unrelated buck we habe a lot of genetic diversity. Even moreso because this litter is from a second unrelated buck.
