Watched a few gardening videos today, one on self-watering containers. Dare I say it? Gardening p**n. I love it!
I might do a couple of container tomatoes this year.

I might do a couple of container tomatoes this year.

I have 42 tomatoes starts with 2 seeds each right now... plus other starts of eggplant, zucchini, yellow squash, leeks, hot snd sweet peppers. Going all out this year. That's just the list of what's getting started indoors. There's 3 times that getting directly sowed outside.

Looks like we need to step up our game. I usually have a maximum of eight tomato plants, seven beef steak and one cherry type. Maybe I should branch out this year? I want to know BReeder what you feed your tomato plants. Last year was a banner year but we had such nice weather.

Compost. I feed everything compost. I'll mulch the tomatoes with rough compost (unsifted) which will still have some woody, fibrous bits. The nutrients in the compost will then leach into the soil below with the help of water and feed the roots.

I decided to swing up to trellis to buy a little more layer feed. They now have you call ahead or from the parking lot to place your order/pay and then they'll load up your car. I was oddly comforted by this. On the way back I noticed there is a new drive-thru covid testing station set up in Warrenville.

Joel Salatin style mulching? Have you looked into his methods? I've only recently heard of him but he has lots of great stuff.

Never heard of him. I wouldn't say I have precise methods nor try to follow any. I beak a lot of the composting "rules". I compost pine shavings, citrus peels, scraps of meat and bone sometimes, tomato and potato vines, weeds, and all sorts of things various people claim you shouldn't add to a pile. It's working out well, so I keep fm doing it. If there's any rules I try to follow they are 1. Stir often 2. Keep it moist (although I tend to rely on rain just except during the driest parts of summer) 3. Have plenty of carbon matter and 4. Burry nitrogen rich master below carbon matter when adding to a pile.

I ordered dinner today for pickup for the first time since COVID-19 broke out. They walked the order right to my car. When I got home I found a roll of TP in the bag.
