Here's the hen who's getting the April Fools Prank. Not only will she hatch more chicks than eggs, but they will be bigger than her in about 3 weeks!

Can I suggest since you caught him, keep him inside your garage, and keep feeding him well. When TIMES GET HARD,,:( You can still keep all your chickens as egg producers:old:gig
By the size, I estimate him to be about 1 1/2 years old. Still tender. They only have a lifespan of 3 to 4, and constantly grow during their life. The larger, you see one, the closer he is to Retirement Golden Years.

I could use one of those BABUSHKAS for one of my chickens that keeps getting scalped. The lowest on pecking order:( I was thinking of getting some of this for her.

I think a dispatching is more likely. Y'know the last skunk I caught i seriously had to talk myself out of Putting him in a box or sealed bucket. I thought it'd be hilarious for the trash guy to get half mile away and hit the compactor and think he ran o er s skunk. Was so close to doing that or setting him in a box by the road when the teenagers get off the bus and curiosity overwhelms them. Could a had so much fun but would have been a bit less humane.
Instead I feed them till I get a chance to do the deed.

Checked and moved eggs to hatching try . Some were pipped already . Due Thursday . Hmm might need to lower temp if they hatch too early . Put a digital controller on and need to find the sweet spot . Set it at 100 as it does not do half degrees .
Surprised the controller doesn't have more control. Is it for incubators or repurposed?
My turkeys always hatch a day or three early. Even under a hen.

It is one of those $12 types off eBay . They are better than the old GQF type . I quit those and went back to wafer for a few years . Love these digital types . So easy to set . I use them om my brooder also . One degree increments and down 1 to 1.5 degrees to kick on again . I now think I misremembered the day I set them . So on time I think . Those older GQF were hard to dial in and about $70 . Junk really .

If you can watch the previous medcram (I didn't get a chance to post) it talked about warm bath helping immune system...... this one mentions the Spanish flu of 1918 and the doctors then used warm bath to fight it. Today they only know about prescriptions. I guess that's why now they say practicing medicine.

My incubator came in today. I have cleaned and now have it up and running. It says I should be able to add the eggs in four hours. I am thinking I will add 14 eggs that way even if we get a little less than 50% hatch we should get at least six. The incubator seems to be very user friendly which should help since this is my first time hatching. IMG_20200331_155353110.jpg IMG_20200331_150513755_HDR.jpg
