Hes a big guy. This is a raccoon trap big enough for chickens to walk in and out of.View attachment 2065846
Can I suggest since you caught him, keep him inside your garage, and keep feeding him well. When TIMES GET HARD,,:( You can still keep all your chickens as egg producers:old:gig
By the size, I estimate him to be about 1 1/2 years old. Still tender. They only have a lifespan of 3 to 4, and constantly grow during their life. The larger, you see one, the closer he is to Retirement Golden Years.
We're really getting bored here! The knitting is getting out of control.

I could use one of those BABUSHKAS for one of my chickens that keeps getting scalped. The lowest on pecking order:( I was thinking of getting some of this for her.

Is that DS's test hatch?
Sort of. He has 2 projects.

His vet science experiment:
28 eggs total =
2 fertile eggs 14 days old, 2 eggs 13 days old, .......continuing down to 1 day old.

Each day he chose the 2 "best" orp eggs. All eggs were just left out on the counter at room temp and then set on the same day. He'll have to do more hatches because it's a very small sampling. He was collecting another 28 eggs to be started this Wed, but since I'm not sure on how chick sales will go, we're now eating those eggs and will do another trial in a month or so.

On candling day, the results were pretty much what would be expected. An exception was one of the 14 day old eggs was developing. We don't bother incubating anything over a 7-10 days old.

His poultry science project involves making an incubator. (Using what he learned from last year's project of testing out various brands of incubators, he wants to build his dream incubator) He hopes to use this incubator for at least one trial, but it's not built yet.
Grant: Due to coronavirus, we have not heard if he got any grant money for this. (Like everything else, I'm sure the offices are closed.) If he doesn't get a grant, then he'll have to come up with another idea.
