I'm also very surprised at how well it went. They pretty much all hatched within a small window of time. Most within 8 hrs overnight, but all within 15 hours of each other.Wow that is a great hatch rate for poults.
Do all the poults look like the same colors as last year?
Red bronze Jake might have been the father of some. Maybe he hadn't started breeding yet. I know he did later. The Tom is a calico, same as last year
Anyone have a good caption for this pic?
How's the bellybutton poult?Hatch update:
Late last night the 1st 2 poults hatched. They flopped around like little drunks.

The egg that had pipped upside down required assistance. Chick started zipping around dinner and at 6am this morning, it was clearly stuck. Once I removed the top & moistened the hardened membranes, the poult pushed out immediately. The navel didn't look closed so I gently pushed in the navel area, applied antibiotic ointment, wrapped poult in wet paper towels and placed it in a mug to prevent it from too much activity strain.
At this point all 12 turkey eggs hatched. Most are now with mama Cookie in the brooder, and a few are still drying out in the incubator. (Not sure what the fate will be of the cupped poult) There's a pipped orp egg and a few ?? orp eggs remaining. Nothing yet happened with the serama eggs. I did add them later (trying to schedule the same target hatch day) so it's very possible I will have an extended, scattered hatch. The seramas were also all together in the same area of the incubator, so perhaps a cooler spot.
And, here's a poult pic just for fun.

So sorry for your lossSad news. I found Banshee today. Apparently she had made a nest somewhere in the barn and hunkered down where I couldnt find her. But something did find her this morning. I went to get shavings and found pieces everywhere including a broken egg. There was nothing left but a leg, the wings and feathers. Poor girl. I should have searched more in the barn as i knew she had been laying eggs in there.![]()
