I got a bunch of raccoons this spring. And then a couple more showed up for a free midnight snack.
First year I have had predator losses.

1 broody chicken to hawk,
3 of her brood and 1 other chick.. I assume hawk

We had @homeschoolin momma 's family over today. My family also hatched chicks this weekend, so we tried our luck at vent sexing. Note: We (especially @homeschoolin momma ) also learned why you should express the poop from the chick before attempting to sex.

Yup! This chick had "extra" fire power. Almost got it in my open mouth!

They're coming from Meyer. An Ameraucana, Cream Legbar, OE, EE and a mystery meal maker. The website says this week's MM is a barred rock or RIR so either of those would be awesome since I don't have either yet. Can you tell I was trying to color up my egg basket a little?

So exciting..... I would turn on lamp, if nothing else give you time to adjust for correct temp. It's cold outside and they will be ready for a warm bed.

I cant name her lonely (only 1 of 8 survivor of raccoon attack) because that is depressing for me. But I will name her Lo for short. So it's only a little depressing. Her colors are coming in more and more. I wish the camera could pick up the pearl affect better because she has some beautiful purple on her neck with scattered orange and gold on her chest.
I used to be a purist but have loved the random beauty of these mutts.
