:hugsIts always sad to loose one. She did pull 8 years. Who will take her job now???
There’s no ONE hen to take her place but I do have a broody pair getting ready to adopt my Easter Hatch-a-long chicks. My serama and her daughter (her adopted modern game bantam) are working together. The serama sits on the eggs and the MGB sits on the serama.

I may get another bantam Orpington some day..... if I find a breeder with the English type. They are very hard to find.

Cookie was an extra egg given to me with some shipped lav orp eggs. What a pleasant surprise she was!

I had to look up to see if there is really a bantam version of Orpington.
Searched and found it to be such.
I know it was a long time ago, but do you remember that egg to be smaller than the other eggs you took to hatch out. ?

Yes, the bantam orp egg was smaller. The breeder had a few breeds I wanted (Cream Crested Legbars, Marans, and Lav Orps) I needed eggs for a sci class and the breeder shipped egg assortments to teachers. I requested the those 3 breeds, which she was able to make happen. I also got a Bresse and a little OEG egg. I ended up hatching 4 CCL, 2 lav orps, 1 black orp, and Cookie.

Her bantam orps were imported bloodlines in an assortment of colors. I wanted to order more the next year, but sadly she had a string of predator issues and decided to stop her side business.

I saw and even thought about ordering those buff bantam orps from Cackle, but they're not the English body type. A bantam cochin would be very similar ..... but I don't know if I want the maintenance of feathered feet. I already have 2 silkies, so no shortage of broody hens.

I've been eyeing this flock for over a year on eBay. The hen's face below reminds me of Cookie. I also like the unique color. However, I can't risk the cost of shipped eggs - especially with all the recent mail delays.

I can see why you would want them

Just curious, can you request other carriers besides USPS?? Would FedEx be able to deliver, and would they handle the package gently??? I'm only referring to eggs, not chicks. It may cost just a little more but worth if it means getting fresh, and not old. Or Scrambled. :idunno

Where are they located?

I’m so sorry about cookie.
For what it’s worth I’ve had a lot of stuff sent through the post office lately and nothing has been delayed since the end of January. We get a lot of medical supplies for my three year old shipped and the only carrier we have had issues with lately is DHL but they always suck 🤷‍♀️
